Chapter 100: You Must Never Let Sister Catch You
Chen Hong was so furious she felt her lungs might explode. Once her temper flared, she seemed suddenly unconcerned about money; she even abandoned her high heels and tore after Little Ma barefoot.
Little Ma happened to glance back, wanting to see whether she had hurt herself badly when she fell, only to discover that she was charging after him again.
Damn, this witch actually had pretty impressive explosive speed.
Little Ma immediately broke into another run.
The farther Chen Hong chased, the angrier she became. At first, she had only meant to scare him a little and show off her superiority. Now she was genuinely determined to catch the brat and beat him until he knelt down and sang “Conquer.”
As she ran, Chen Hong screamed, “You little bastard! Don’t you dare let me catch you!”
“Young Master’s magic failed today! Just wait until I bring out my magical treasure next time—I’ll scare you to death, you witch!” Little Ma shouted as he ran ahead, acting completely unhinged.
The scene left the elementary school students and everyone else staring in disbelief.
Before long, the chase had spilled outside the school.
Just then, a Baojun came speeding over and stopped at the school entrance. When the doors opened, four muscular men stepped out.
Three of them had crew cuts. The fourth was tall and well-built, with long hair, giving off a distinctly cool and handsome air. These were the people Teacher Chen had summoned with her whistle.
Chasing behind them, Chen Hong screamed hoarsely at the long-haired man, “Haodong, grab that bastard!”
Unfortunately, Little Ma had already slipped past them and put some distance between himself and the group.
“Catch him! Hurry! Run him over and kill that idiot!” Chen Hong finally reached Chen Haodong, panting heavily.
Little Ma ran until he had reached what he considered a safe distance, then stopped and turned to watch them.
The more he behaved like that, the angrier Chen Hong became. She shouted again, “Haodong, go run that bastard over!”
“...” Chen Haodong narrowed his eyes and glanced in Little Ma’s direction before asking Chen Hong, “What happened? You haven’t even explained anything. Did he harass you?”
“No!” Chen Hong roared. “That bastard is infuriating! He insulted me and verbally attacked me more than once. I’m so angry I could explode. Birds of a feather flock together—he’s Wang Xia’ai’s brother or something, the guardian of that little brat who injured your sister.”
Chen Haodong frowned and took her hand. “Even so, there’s no need to run him over and kill him, is there?”
Only then did Chen Hong huff, “I was just saying that out of anger.”
Chen Haodong nodded, looking somewhat exasperated. “Fine. Keep venting, then. Calm down first.”
“What kind of attitude is that? Why did you come if you weren’t going to help me? I’m doing this for you! Your sister was bullied by those girls and is lying in the hospital, and you’re acting as though you don’t even know!” Chen Hong loudly expressed her displeasure.
Chen Haodong said helplessly, “Don’t take sides blindly. I know my sister’s temper better than anyone. She was injured, yes, but it was only a minor scrape. Why not let a few little kids settle their own business? Once adults get involved, the nature of things changes. If I behaved like you, twenty lives wouldn’t be enough to keep me alive. When you’re out in society, knowing where to draw the line is crucial.”
“So I’m meddling in someone else’s affairs? You’re treating my good intentions like donkey liver and lungs?” Chen Hong asked bitterly.
Chen Haodong grew even more exasperated. “Good grief, I’m not educated enough to argue with you. But don’t twist my meaning—you know that isn’t what I meant. You also know this matter isn’t as serious as you think. If every incident like this required someone to be run over and killed, I’d have needed eighty lives just to survive until today.”
Chen Hong felt both aggrieved and close to tears. Pointing at herself, she said, “He insulted me and made me fall into the dirt. My clothes are torn too! This outfit cost at least four months of that brat’s income. You came here, and this is how you treat me—like a joke? Look at him! He doesn’t even know he did anything wrong. He’s standing over there laughing at us and provoking us. You’ve made me lose all face!”
Two of the men spoke up. “Brother Dong... If that’s what happened, we have to respond. What kind of man bullies a woman? He made Teacher Chen look like this, refuses to explain himself, and is still standing there provoking us. If we don’t teach him a lesson, a lot of people will stop respecting us.”
With no choice, Chen Haodong curled his finger at Little Ma. “Come over here. Let me teach you how to conduct yourself. Come now while we can still talk peacefully. It won’t be so pleasant later.”
“Do you think I’m an idiot? You tell me to come over, and I’m supposed to come?” Little Ma stood at a safe distance, looking completely deranged.
“Hey, kid, you really do look like you’ve got something wrong with your head. Brother Dong called you over to discuss life with you, and that’s your attitude?” Several of the men began walking toward him.
Little Ma immediately took off running.
It was maddening. Whenever one of the men moved, he ran; whenever they stopped, he stopped too, watching them from a distance.
“Are you really insane?” Chen Haodong shouted toward him.
“If my brain is sick, then yours are nothing but bean curd scraps! My IQ is three hundred and ninety-seven. What’s the total of all of yours?” Little Ma continued acting like a lunatic.
“Go over there and drag him back. Beat him to death!”
Losing patience, Chen Haodong waved his hand and blurted out the threat in anger. Then he turned around and resumed discussing the situation at the school with Chen Hong.
“You think it’ll be that easy to drag me back and beat me to death? I’m out of here. I’ll settle accounts with you another day!” Little Ma shouted from his safe distance before darting into a side street and disappearing.
The men were furious enough to grind their teeth, but there was nothing they could do except return dejectedly.
In truth, Chen Haodong had never intended to have the boy dragged away and killed. It didn’t matter to him whether Little Ma had escaped.
Chen Hong, however, refused to let it go. “So you’re just going to brush me off? And that’s the end of it?”
Chen Haodong said irritably, “I never said we should let it go. But he’s already run off, hasn’t he? I have plenty of things to deal with. I can’t drive all over the city just to look for him, can I?”
“It would be easy to find him. Isn’t Wang Xia’ai still at the school?”
Chen Haodong immediately frowned deeply. “That’s going too far. Do you expect me to go pick a fight with some little girl?”
Chen Hong also realized that she was being unreasonable, and for the moment, she had no better solution.
Chen Haodong was eager to blow off some steam and didn’t want to offend her too badly. He took her hand again and said, “Don’t be so petty. Don’t get hung up on this. It’s not a big deal. Of course, that bastard really is an idiot, and I’ll find him later to have a little talk about life. I’ll make him apologize to you, and that’ll settle it. What more do you want?”
Still furious, Chen Hong shook off his hand. “We’ll talk about it later.”
“You...” Chen Haodong could only frown as he watched her walk away.
If he hadn’t already invested so much in her—and if her looks and figure weren’t so rare and difficult to find—he really would have considered getting a new girlfriend.
Shaking his head, Chen Haodong didn’t want to seem like a nagging husband. He made no attempt to chase after Chen Hong and got into the car first.
“Let’s go.”
After his men climbed in as well, Chen Haodong thought for a moment before saying, “Find out where that kid is.”
“Why not just break his arm?” asked one of the men, who looked like a genuine thug.
He was immediately smacked on the back of the head.
“It’s not that serious. Don’t let a donkey kick your brain. But I will find him and have a little talk about life,” Chen Haodong said. He patted the dashboard. “Drive. Take me home so I can shower and change clothes. I’m meeting the big boss later.”
