After work, Pony decisively followed Meishu for a hearty bowl of noodles. After sharing a couple of juicy tidbits with her, and remembering the last time he was terrible and got called an idiot by her, he skipped the movie this time. It was on the way, so he went to Yuchengmin’s villa to help her tidy up.

The house of this commanding lady wasn't exactly messy, but neither was it tidy. It was clear she was the type who lived according to her own rules and disliked fuss, so things didn't get out of hand. Yet her laziness meant she hadn’t cleaned in quite some time, so even the neatest arrangement had begun to slip into mild disorder.

Time was short, so Pony focused on what would make the biggest impact: just tidying up the two messiest spots.

It was obvious what needed attention and what didn’t. The living room sofa and her upstairs workspace were the worst, which meant those were the places she frequented most. Cleaning them would be the most effective.

The rest—her bedroom, for instance—wasn’t too messy, indicating she didn’t spend much time there.

Wait…

Pony pulled out a large-sized bra from between the sofa cushions, holding it up with a dumbfounded expression. Damn, the turtle hides its meat in its shell; from her appearance, you’d never guess her size was so generous.

It seemed she was reserved, intentionally suppressing these features rather than highlighting them.

Impressive. Some people exaggerate their traits to the extreme, using every bit they have, sometimes even more. In this respect, Yuchengmin resembled Ni Feihong—no, she suppressed herself even more deliberately than Ni Feihong.

Pony, a little neurotic, held that big bra and let his mind wander, unsure what to do with it, so he shoved it back where he found it.

The main thing was the awkwardness—if he lumped it with her dirty laundry, it’d feel like he was meddling with her private things, which wasn’t right…

In a refined restaurant, the elegant prosecutor Zhen Yuqi sat alone at the table, sending a few mildly flirtatious but not vulgar messages to Qu Changfeng on her phone. She looked up when the popular man Si Nan entered.

Zhen Yuqi quickly switched her phone to silent and put it away, smiling, “Si Nan, what made you invite me out today?”

“I’ve been wanting to ask you out for ages, Zhen, but I was worried you’d be busy or refuse, so I got a bit timid,” Si Nan replied, purposefully.

Zhen Yuqi laughed, “Come on, in all these years we’ve known each other, have I ever missed one of your invitations? I always have something going on, but I come anyway without a word.”

Si Nan couldn’t help but glance at her a couple more times, feeling his heart warm. If only tonight he could take her somewhere for a bit of fun.

Zhen Yuqi added, “Looks like you’re troubled about something, right? It’s fine, I’ll drink with you tonight.”

Touched by her words, and since he was never short of women, Si Nan really let his guard down and said, “Who isn’t troubled? The workplace has been tough lately. Some country bumpkin has stirred things up, making life increasingly difficult. If I’m not careful, I might end up like Feng Chenchen and have to leave.”

Zhen Yuqi was worried for him, “Don’t say that. Money might be secondary for you, but that’s your stage. What happened exactly?”

“It’s all because of that dog Ma Weimin. I heard you’ve got a case in trouble, is it related to him?” Si Nan ventured.

Zhen Yuqi hesitated for a moment, “That kid is definitely trouble, reckless and oblivious. But what’s strange is, in terms of academics, background, talent, height, finances, popularity—he’s nowhere near you. Why is he a threat in the workplace?”

Si Nan frowned, “He’s trash in all those ways, but it’s weird. Besides having ridiculous luck, he’s especially good at alluring people and playing small tricks. Even our boss Yu has fallen under his spell for some reason.”

Zhen Yuqi sensed it wasn’t so simple but didn’t dwell on it, instead keeping the conversation light. It was rare for such a handsome young man to invite her out; she didn’t want to spoil the mood.

As for a husband, Qu Changfeng was undoubtedly the most suitable in every way. Si Nan, though younger and tainted by a different crowd, was more open and suitable for ‘play’ in other respects.

While chatting, Zhen Yuqi let her thoughts wander.

After a couple sips of strong liquor, Si Nan grumbled, “I really can’t stand that bastard. He’s too arrogant. I’ve seen arrogant types, but I can’t get used to some country bumpkin suddenly acting so cocky.”

Zhen Yuqi smiled, “I don’t know how much he annoys me, but he is certainly reckless—a dangerous lawbreaker. I’ll help you, but I need some support myself.”

That was exactly Si Nan’s purpose; his eyes lit up. “Tell me.”

Zhen Yuqi became serious, “It’s not really a transaction. I’m a prosecutor; my position and duty are to lock up unruly criminals. He’s definitely guilty, and taking him down is my job. The trouble is, Zhang Jing is out of her mind and keeps shielding him.”

Si Nan frowned, “Never heard of Zhang Jing. Is she really that powerful?”

Zhen Yuqi shook her head, “No, she’s brainless, not particularly capable. Judging by how she deliberately harmed a prosecutor in the police station, you can see what kind of person she is. Birds of a feather—now you know why she protects Pony. In a way, Ma Weimin is her cover; if he goes to prison, it might make her feel even more guilty.”

Si Nan’s face darkened in anger, “Are they above the law now? He actually teamed up with corrupt cops to hurt you?”

Zhen Yuqi shook her head, “Whether they teamed up or whether those cops are corrupt, who knows—let’s not get into that. Zhang Jing isn’t the main issue, but unfortunately, Qu Changfeng is caught in the middle, protecting Zhang Jing, which complicates things. So I can keep biting down on Ma Weimin’s case, making things hard for the police, but I need someone to back me up. Otherwise, the prosecution won’t risk offending Qu Changfeng’s father for this.”

Si Nan understood her meaning, hesitated a moment, then nodded, “Alright, I’ll talk to my mother in detail and have her support you.”

When Si Nan went to the restroom, Zhen Yuqi pulled out her phone again and quickly replied to Qu Changfeng with a few flirtatious messages…

After leaving Yuchengmin’s place, Pony didn’t go to Feng Chenchen’s, but instead returned to the townhouse where he used to live, intending to check in on Chen Xiao.

He had no ulterior motives toward her, only a simple friendship—he found her pleasant. Besides, Pony had paid rent here, and the lease wasn’t up yet, so visiting was perfectly justified.

But as soon as he reached the entrance to the complex, a forceful hand grabbed him.

“Officer Zhang, why are you always popping up out of nowhere?” Pony was truly exasperated with Zhang Jing—a complicated mix of affection, fear, and resentment.

“I’m checking if you’ll run and leave me to take the blame.” Zhang Jing sized him up, finding him increasingly pleasing to the eye.

“You’re overthinking it,” Pony replied.

“Not really. I’ve already been inside your place and talked to Chen Xiao. She said you haven’t been home for several days. I feel like you’re setting me up,” Zhang Jing said.

Lately, Zhang Jing had subconsciously wanted to see this brat, hoping he’d come ‘report in’ and buzz around her like a persistent fly. It was a bizarre notion, but she genuinely wanted it. Yet she was disappointed—he seemed so at ease, completely absorbed elsewhere, she hadn’t seen a trace of him.

Unable to resist, she used the excuse of needing a report to teach him a lesson, only to learn he hadn’t been home for days. Maybe he was planning to run—she didn’t know. Still, her controlling instincts flared, and she was annoyed by his absence.

Seeing Pony’s carefree look, Zhang Jing barked, “Stand still!”

“Why?” Pony protested.

“Because you’re a problem person now, one foot already in a cell. Let me check if you’re behaving, if you have any contraband.” Zhang Jing gave him a slap on the back of the head.

Damn.

Pony only managed to say, “If you hit me again, I’ll fight you,”—his usual catchphrase—but she swept his legs and flipped him to the ground in front of everyone, pinning him with her knee and kneading him like dough.

“Alright, alright… I surrender. At least spare a thought for appearances,” Pony complained, thinking she really was something else. Why hadn’t this violent woman been suspended yet?

While checking him over, Zhang Jing wondered: Do I have a screw loose? This kid, apart from being a little devilishly handsome, has no family background, a half-wasted chicken physique—am I blind or has my brain picked up his scent? Why am I obsessively watching him?

Even so, she glanced at his slightly neurotic handsome face, sensing his unique style, feeling a strange attraction. Qu Changfeng was good-looking too, but somehow lacked something, even seemed a bit fake.

After her little daydream and search, Zhang Jing hesitated, “Do you have any money?”

Pony was stunned, “I’ve got plenty. What are you getting at?”

“Would you like to treat me to something? I know a pretty good place,” Zhang Jing’s expression turned oddly sly.

“If it’s just food, why all the pulling and fuss?” Pony replied.

“Just follow me closely,” Zhang Jing decisively dragged him away…
