“Sorry I’m a bit late today, got drunk last night.”

The name Han Siyu was on the priority list within the police system, so after the report was made, officers arrived quickly—quite a few of them, in fact.

The house had been lively for quite some time.

A middle-aged policeman sat across and asked, “Whose house is this?”

“It belongs to Feng Chenchen. I’m her friend and staying here temporarily,” Xiao Ma replied.

The officer asked, “You said about an hour ago you found Han Siyu injured, lying in the middle of the road nearby?”

“Didn’t I already explain that?” Xiao Ma responded.

“Please say it again,” the officer said without further explanation.

Xiao Ma continued, “Yes, I came across her on the roadside. She was injured and semi-conscious, her head covered.”

The officer clarified, “Was that fifty-seven minutes ago?”

“Something like that. I had been out partying all night and was a bit dizzy, so my sense of time wasn’t sharp. Don’t ask me the exact time—I was scared seeing a woman lying there with her head covered. When I saw she was still moving, I carried her back,” Xiao Ma explained.

“Why didn’t you call the police right there?” the officer asked curiously.

“I told you, I was dizzy. It was cold in the mountains early morning. I didn’t want to wait around, so I brought her back first,” Xiao Ma said.

“This place isn’t close. Didn’t anyone drive you home?” the officer asked.

“There was, but I wanted to walk the last stretch, so the driver left early,” Xiao Ma fabricated.

“You should be able to check your ride records, right?” the officer smiled.

“No records. Jiang Yaowen brought me here,” Xiao Ma said.

“Which Jiang Yaowen?”

“The Jiang Yaowen you’ve heard of.”

The officer sighed helplessly, closed his notebook, and walked away.

That ended Xiao Ma’s flawed interrogation.

Jiang Yaowen wasn’t omnipotent, but he was quite persuasive in general matters.

Basically, the interrogation concluded that Han Siyu’s account matched Xiao Ma’s, and the forensic report was already in: Tian Jia died from boxing injuries, which Han Siyu was incapable of inflicting. This left only one conclusion—Han Siyu had been abducted.

Other leads were useless. She claimed to have been blindfolded throughout, with only her toenails removed. The captors only questioned her about the Poseidon incident.

No one knew the details of the Poseidon incident. It was just another US-Russia spat, clearly beyond police jurisdiction. Han Siyu was emotionally unstable and distressed. Since she could only be treated as a victim, the initial investigation ended there.

After rescheduling, the officers gradually left.

Once things quieted down, Xiao Ma asked, “Do you want me to take you to the hospital?”

Han Siyu’s expression was peculiar as she quietly looked at him.

“Do you want to go or not?” Xiao Ma waved his hand in front of her eyes.

Han Siyu snapped out of it and shook her head sadly. “No, thanks for the offer. What good would the hospital do? Do you think they can make my nails grow back? It’s not a severe injury, just needs time to heal.”

“Then should I take you home?” Xiao Ma suggested.

She immediately shook her head. “I’m scared now. Don’t dare to go home or be alone... How about, Brother Xiao Ma, since you’re kind, let me stay here for a while?”

“Uh...” Xiao Ma hesitated. This was after all Feng Chenchen’s place, but thinking it over, she probably wouldn’t mind. So he nodded. “I’ll get some medicine to treat your toes.”

“That’s going to hurt terribly, right?” Han Siyu looked horrified.

“Pain’s bearable. If it gets infected or worse, that’s more trouble. You danced so much, there’s bound to be consequences,” Xiao Ma said as he got up.

Han Siyu felt awkward. His remark about paying a price for her dancing sounded like he still held a grudge. She weakly asked, “I’m like this already, you still won’t forgive me?”

“I don’t hate you. I’ve forgiven you, but that doesn’t erase the consequences,” he replied.

Without further ado, Xiao Ma began to “torment” her, forcefully pulling off the socks stuck to her injured toes with no finesse, using sheer force.

Tears streamed down her face as she whimpered.

Exhausted and sweating, she collapsed on the sofa, gazing at Xiao Ma with a strange look and some hesitation. “Why... did you think to help me?”

Xiao Ma replied, “Just did. No reason. Don’t overthink these things; the more you do, the less you understand. Instead, I’m curious—how did you get mixed up with Tian Jia?”

Han Siyu quickly told the truth. “At first, I admired his talent. Then, getting close, it was vanity. Later, I realized I’d been used and dragged into his affairs, making me look like an accomplice. With all these complicated feelings, I got deeper and deeper. Eventually, it was like we were tied together.”

It seemed Elsa’s coaching had taught her to answer questions differently—not starting with “the whole world’s wrong, I’m right.”

But Xiao Ma wasn’t Elsa. He didn’t like such brief answers that were vague and lacked gossip. Still, seeing her sadness, he didn’t press further.

Han Siyu’s eyes reddened again. “I really regret it. I was reckless and stupid. I never intended to do anything truly evil, just wanted to make some money.”

Fearing Xiao Ma wouldn’t believe her, she hurriedly added, “Believe this—I only made some money. Having money made me arrogant, and I liked to show a mocking face. His foul mouth is his nature, but I often had to play along. Also, his assault on a female doctoral student had nothing to do with me.”

Elsa was impressive—within half an hour, she had straightened out Han Siyu’s “wicked ways.” That’s what training and taming are all about.

Thinking this, Xiao Ma chuckled quietly.

He felt no malice and, feeling sleepy, said, “I won’t bother you anymore. Do as you please, just stay here if you want.”

Having taken painkillers, Han Siyu felt better and hesitantly asked, “Brother Xiao Ma, what exactly happened with the Poseidon incident?”

Xiao Ma knew nothing. Before heading upstairs, he put on an air of mystique: “Aren’t you afraid one day someone will say you know too much?”

Han Siyu, now a frightened bird, thought he made sense. His demeanor looked impressive and authoritative.

She was genuinely terrified. Earth felt so dangerous now; this place seemed like the only safe haven.

With that, she watched his back as he went upstairs.

Their relationship was still new, and with her half-disabled state, Han Siyu felt shy about being too forward. Yet she thought only a fool wouldn’t like someone like him—generous, influential, handsome, kind-hearted, clever, and talented.

With these thoughts, drowsiness overtook her, and she fell asleep.

At nine o’clock, Feng Chenchen, dressed flamboyantly, came downstairs.

Han Siyu, still jumpy, was awakened by the clicking of Feng Chenchen’s high heels and lay on the sofa, weakly watching her.

Feng Chenchen strutted like a crab, then hesitated before asking, “You’re a computer expert with a doctorate, right?”

Han Siyu nodded weakly.

“I’m planning to direct a film and need some consultation. You can be my advisor. You love acting and pretending, so when you’re free, you can appear on camera as a mocking extra. That’s it,” Feng Chenchen said.

Han Siyu nodded again.

“I’m going out to meet some people now. Once the main cast is confirmed, shooting will start soon.”

Han Siyu wasn’t sure if this meant she had found a new job.

Seeing Feng Chenchen about to leave abruptly, Han Siyu quickly asked, “This is your house. I’m not in a good state now. Can I stay here for a while?”

“Sure. Pick any room. No rent or living expenses, but no visitors allowed.” With that, Feng Chenchen, busy as ever, disappeared.

“?”

This temptress clearly had connections with important people, yet Han Siyu wondered if she was brainless to trust someone like her—a woman as beautiful and tall as Han Siyu herself—to stay here.

Unable to figure it out, Han Siyu limped barefoot to find her room...
