Chapter 36: Must Assert Authority
Chen Xiao had gone out early in the morning; it seemed she was gradually finding her place at “The Most Chic.” The sun was already high when Pony woke up. For a man, the happiest thing is to awaken and see a woman who is truly pleasing to the eye.
Upon waking, Pony discovered that Feng Chenchen was sitting in his bedroom.
“You’re terrible. You didn’t call me yesterday. After I finished my work, I waited for your call, planning to have dinner together. I booked a refined restaurant and waited for ages, but no one showed up,” Feng Chenchen said with a smile.
“Do I look like someone with that much free time?” Pony replied, slipping back into his eccentric manner.
Feng Chenchen gave him a strange look, thought for a moment, and nodded seriously. “True, I guess I was overthinking.”
“But it wasn’t on purpose. I was busy being a Good Samaritan yesterday,” Pony said as he got up.
Feng Chenchen’s expression grew awkward; she clearly didn’t believe him, but was too polite to contradict him. Seeing her face, Pony felt her doubt was justified. Before he could continue the conversation, his phone rang—it was Chen Xiao calling.
He answered, “Xiao Xiao, do you need something?”
Feng Chenchen, listening nearby, was unimpressed. She thought, if you’re going to have a ménage à trois, at least find a partner with some class—Chen Xiao is hardly up to standard... But these thoughts remained just thoughts. Feng Chenchen simply struck a very attractive pose, watching him take the call with gentle eyes.
If the person were different, behaving this way would be hard work for Feng Chenchen. Yet, it was a natural skill for her, and Pony truly had a certain charm—at least, for Feng Chenchen.
On the phone, Chen Xiao said, “Pony, if you’re free, remember to come to ‘The Most Chic’ this afternoon. I found an opportunity to talk to President Hong. She’s agreed to give you another chance—to hire you. Try to be reliable this time, and don’t mess it up with your eccentric antics.”
“Do I look like someone who needs to be reliable?” Pony asked.
“Quit your nonsense, everyone needs to be reliable,” Chen Xiao replied, exasperated.
Pony said, “Alright, I see your point. I happen to have nothing to do. I’ll come by this afternoon.”
After hanging up, Feng Chenchen asked, “So someone wants you to go to ‘The Most Chic’?”
Pony nodded. “Don’t overthink it. Don’t start complaining just because you have issues with Ni Feihong.”
Feng Chenchen rolled her eyes. She would have to be bored enough to badmouth ‘The Most Chic’ at this moment—this was a chance to show her magnanimity and grace. This spoiled scion was obviously going to put on airs and plot against Ni Feihong.
No one knew better than Feng Chenchen how to play along at such moments. She pretended to consider seriously, then said, “Overall, ‘The Most Chic’ is an interesting place. All sorts of people put down roots there. If you’re attentive, you can quickly learn things, quickly grasp some people’s psychology and their little tricks. Objectively speaking, I have conflicts with Ni Feihong, but I must say she’s truly capable. Sometimes her thinking is stubborn and seems eccentric, but she’s rarely wrong. Besides, she’s at the center of the big dye vat but remains the least tainted woman—that’s quite strange.”
Pony was delighted. It seemed the aura of a young master had subdued this enchantress, and she was beginning to entertain some positive thoughts. Girls should always be given a chance to mend their ways. Pony’s ambition wasn’t to eliminate every enchantress. Since they’re enchantresses, they should be gathered under his command, subdued, and prevented from causing havoc in the world—that was his contribution. This was the classic lofty Buddhist mindset.
Like the big shots in “Journey to the West,” none of them liked enforcing the law; usually, they just sided with the troublemakers and brought the monsters home to subdue them. One must learn from classics to gain fame. Pony, having subdued Feng Chenchen, felt it was not unlike the Bodhisattva subduing Red Boy—a little rascal.
So enchantresses must be subdued, must be subdued... must be subdued. Important things deserve repetition.
“So you support me going to ‘The Most Chic’?” Pony chuckled.
Feng Chenchen stood up gracefully, beckoning him, “Come here, I’ll help you tidy up.”
After fixing his hair, she said, “I don’t support you going, but since you want to, I happen to be free—I’ll drive you there. I know all the people and business inside. If you have questions, I’m always available.”
“You’ll accompany me?” Pony was even more pleased.
“I won’t go in with you though. My conflict with Ni Feihong means I can’t show my face. I need to keep some dignity. But since I’m free, I can wait for you in the parking lot. Later, I’ll take you to see the new place—it’s peaceful and has a lovely view.”
She finished fixing his hair. In truth, this body didn’t need much grooming; Feng Chenchen mainly made his hair neater, suppressing the wild vibe and adding a touch of sunshine.
Pony hesitated. “Ni Feihong messed up my hair last time, said it gave me the right look.”
Feng Chenchen laughed, “She’s right, and so am I. That look she gave you is for magazine covers. But as her secretary, it’s different. Trust me.”
“Alright.”
...
Feng Chenchen didn’t drive herself; her chauffeur, a middle-aged woman of ordinary appearance, drove a Cadillac SUV.
She was meticulous about details—after pretending to have an affair with Pony, she decisively replaced her assistant and driver with plain-looking middle-aged women.
When they arrived at the Haihao underground parking lot, Feng Chenchen, in the manner of someone helping him win over a woman, said, “Go ahead. You can be a little casual, but pleasing people and showing competence is most important—it’s the workplace, after all. If you have any issues, just call me; I’ll be your advisor anytime.”
Pony started playing the big shot. “If anything comes up, I’ll call. No need for you to wait here.”
Feng Chenchen hesitated, patted the seat, and the chauffeur drove off.
The elevator wasn’t crowded at this hour. Occasionally, some beautifully dressed young women got on and off, all radiating youthful energy.
Since Pony was so handsome he felt like ruining his own looks, the girls didn’t dare to speak to him, but without exception, they stole glances at him and felt secretly delighted. It was normal—just as timid nerds seeing a beauty wouldn’t dare speak but would scan her secretly and feel a simple thrill.
With this, Pony’s sense of well-being soared to the maximum.
Occasionally, a mature woman with sharp features, dressed in a dark suit and stockings, with a unique air, entered. She glanced at Pony but seemed unimpressed. Unlike the shy peeks of the rookie girls, she openly sized him up and nodded slightly—a display of both confidence and generosity.
It looked like she was a high-level “loser.” Such a personality, if a man has a decent status, can attract plenty of women; likewise, women with this character can win over many handsome men.
Um... Pony tapped his forehead decisively. Complete control over his body wasn’t always a good thing—he was too lewd. The Great Demon King was flawed in many ways, but at least he wasn’t lewd and didn’t pretend to be grand.
When the mature, beautiful woman saw Pony nervously tapping his forehead, she frowned, turned, and looked at him again.
This made Pony a bit embarrassed to meet her gaze.
He also noticed that after entering, she didn’t press a floor button, meaning she was going to the same floor as him.
Pony pulled out his phone, pretended to be playing, and surreptitiously snapped a photo of her, sending it to Feng Chenchen with the message, “Who is she?”
