Chapter 113: Spend New Year's Eve in Prison
Fu Nan was quick and agile, raising his hand to block the bat. With a twist of his wrist, Song Wei let out a sharp scream as the baseball bat dropped to the ground with a clatter.
Everything happened so swiftly that even the police had no time to react. By the time they regained their senses, they hurriedly restrained the crazed Song Wei.
“Miss Song, we hope you cooperate with the police investigation. Otherwise, we will have to enforce the law against you,” one officer warned.
Struggling fiercely, Song Wei shouted, “Do you know who I am? I’m the eldest daughter of the Song family! Let me go at once! You’ve offended the Song family—do you think you’ll have a good outcome? Just a lowly cop dares to lay hands on me? Don’t you know your place?”
The officer holding her frowned, unwilling to waste words. “Take her away.”
Seeing they were serious, Song Wei struggled desperately, glancing toward Song Yuan and Song Shi. “Dad! Brother! Save me! I didn’t do anything! I don’t want to go to the police station! It’s all because of that wretched woman! Say something!”
Song Shi knew well about Song Wei’s troubles. She had almost been arrested overseas before, and he had spent a fortune to settle things. He hadn’t expected trouble to follow her back home. Without a doubt, he knew who was behind this.
He shot a fierce glare at Song Qingyou, who sat calmly in the main seat, indifferent to everything. “What exactly are you trying to do?”
Song Qingyou glanced at him briefly before shifting her gaze to the ashen-faced Song Yuan, curling a faint smile. “Father, I know you won’t care about Song Wei, because in your eyes, even your own daughters are less important than yourself. You’re selfish and indecisive, unwilling to sacrifice your interests to save a daughter. Isn’t that right, Luo Yuan?”
Her voice seemed to pierce through thick clouds and snow, drifting into Song Yuan’s ear and making his eardrums tremble.
For the first time, Song Yuan truly looked at this daughter born of his lawful wife.
Perhaps he had been wrong from the very start.
Wrong not to have ended her life at birth, just as he had done to her mother.
He should have pulled her out like unplugging Song Ning’s life support—cutting off the root. This truth dawned on him far too late.
Song Yuan’s stern and silent expression was clear to Song Wei. She seemed to realize that this father cared nothing for family ties, and certainly not for her.
She burst into tears, her gaze filled with despair, making a final plea: “Dad, please save me. I can’t go in there. I’m your daughter, Dad! Are you really going to let me die like this?”
Although the Song family was facing a looming cash flow crisis, their longstanding foundation in the capital city was still formidable. Without solid evidence, the police dared not arrest anyone rashly.
---
Dragged away by the officers, Song Wei struggled bitterly. Song Shi, unable to bear it, turned to Song Yuan, hoping to plead for her.
Given the grade D drugs Song Wei dealt in, an arrest could cost her life.
Before he could speak, Song Qingyou spoke slowly from behind him. “Song Shi, even if you sell off all your properties, it won’t cover the Song Corporation’s losses.”
Song Shi panicked immediately. “Song Qingyou, shut up!”
Song Yuan’s pupils suddenly dilated as he glared viciously at Song Qingyou. “What did you say? What losses? Explain yourself!”
Song Shi hurriedly said, “It’s nothing, Father. Don’t listen to her nonsense.”
At that moment, no one cared about Song Wei’s cries anymore. Her piercing screams echoed through the mansion but went unanswered.
Song Qingyou smiled. “May I have a moment?”
The police exchanged glances. Although they didn’t know the reason she wanted them to stay, Fu Nan had instructed them well, so they complied, not rushing to detain Song Wei.
Song Qingyou lifted her eyelids slightly, coldly casting a glance at Song Yuan. “Song Shi embezzled company funds and handed all the valuable projects to Qing Ning. Now Qing Ning has gone bankrupt, and the overseas company can’t even be registered. The Song Corporation has suffered a loss. The funding chain has already broken. Once the new year passes, without fresh capital injection, the Song Corporation, which you painstakingly wrested from my grandfather and mother, will collapse.”
Song Yuan’s face shifted from iron-blue to deathly pale, bloodshot eyes burning with rage. He wanted nothing more than to slap Song Shi, but with both hands crippled, he couldn’t even raise them. All he could do was glare fiercely. “Explain yourself!”
Cold sweat drenched Song Shi’s back as he gritted his teeth. “I didn’t expect this to happen. I asked for your approval on Qing Ning’s project, and you agreed. You can’t blame it all on me...”
“Get out! Get out of my sight! I, Song Yuan, don’t have a son like you!” Song Yuan nearly collapsed to the floor, but was steadied by servants behind him.
Before Song Shi could finish, Song Yuan interrupted. Song Shi gave up pretending. “Dad, have you ever really treated me like your son all these years? Me, Song Wei, Song Chen, even Song Qingyou—we’re just chess pieces to you! You only care about yourself. If the Song Corporation falls, it won’t be your problem! If you hadn’t provoked Fu Wenzhou, would the company be suppressed? All my projects have been wrecked, not just Qing Ning’s!”
Song Yuan was left speechless in anger. “You… you unfilial son! Unfilial son!”
Clutching his chest, he gasped for breath, his gaze murderous as if he wanted to kill Song Shi.
Song Qingyou lifted her delicate hand slightly, picking up a tea cup from the desk. With a casual flick, she removed the foam on the surface and quietly enjoyed watching this family tear itself apart.
---
The police probably never expected to witness such a farce here.
Song Qingyou gave Fu a subtle signal. Fu Bei immediately took documents from his arms and handed them to the police. “This is evidence of Song Shi embezzling company funds and manipulating stock prices.”
The lead officer raised an eyebrow, noting that the charge was embezzlement rather than misappropriation of public funds. The sentencing for these crimes differed greatly. He looked deeply at Song Qingyou before taking the documents.
Song Shi was stunned, suddenly turning to Song Qingyou with intense hatred flashing in his eyes. “Song Qingyou!”
Her expression remained unchanged; her tone was calm. “They say the new year marks a fresh start, but you don’t deserve one. So this year, you and Song Wei will spend it behind bars. Happy New Year.”
Never before had those words sounded so bitter to Song Shi. He took a deep breath, his face pale. Realizing he was cornered, he gave up struggling, unexpectedly calm for a moment. “Song Qingyou, you really are heartless.”
“A compliment,” she replied lightly, setting down the tea cup and dabbing her lips with a cloth. Her gaze lowered carelessly. “Forgot to tell you, Qing Ning is my asset.”
Song Shi’s eyes widened slowly as memories flashed through his mind.
He recalled his first dealings with Qing Ning through Shiyu. He remembered Qing Ning using various shady contracts to coax him into signing. He remembered the trusted subordinate who destroyed evidence when he helped Song Wei with double apartments.
Everything had been planned from the start. This was a trap.
And the other side had likely been plotting for years. At this moment, even Song Shi couldn’t help but admire Song Qingyou’s patience.
His fists clenched tightly, cracking with the pressure as he ground his teeth. “Fang Liang is my man. He’s been with me for six years. We’re classmates. We’re friends. Why would he betray me?”
Song Qingyou’s lips curled slightly. “Loyalty is just the weight to counterbalance betrayal.”
Song Shi slowly closed his eyes. He admitted defeat.
Song Qingyou’s eyes shifted, settling on Song Yuan. “Now, it’s time for my dear father.”
