Chapter 38: Annihilation Mode, Initiated!
The wall of weapons was, of course, not prepared by Luca.
In truth, these were all part of the collection left behind by his father, Hermann. However, because Connecticut had a large population of the wealthy and relatively strict regulations regarding the possession and use of firearms, these guns remained mere collectibles. Aside from the occasional cleaning or handling, Hermann had essentially never used them.
"Young Master, you had best stay here. I will go and deal with them!"
As Shamira spoke, she headed straight for the weapon rack, grabbing a firearm and preparing to head out to face the enemy. Before she could take a step, however, Luca reached out and stopped her.
"Wait!"
While holding Shamira back, Luca’s left hand tapped rapidly on the keyboard. He quickly pulled up the security footage for the entire villa and dragged the feeds onto several other monitors.
As Shamira had suspected, the cameras covering the exterior of the villa clearly captured several masked figures in black, armed with weapons, stealthily creeping toward the house.
Luca glanced at the screens, then at Baymax, who stood beside him fully armored. Without a moment's hesitation, he pressed the temple of his tracking glasses, ejecting the tracker. He stood up and inserted it into the pre-made port on the back of Baymax’s head armor. Simultaneously, he took out a Bluetooth earpiece and handed it to Shamira.
Under her puzzled gaze, Luca gave Baymax’s armored arm a light pat and smiled.
"This time, let Baymax take the lead!"
"This..."
Although she had previously witnessed Baymax utilize his "karate" moves, Shamira still did not believe the robot possessed any significant combat capability. However, this was not the time for debate. Seeing the confidence in Luca’s eyes, she closed her mouth and chose to follow her young master’s orders.
"Baymax, connect to the tracking glasses."
"Tracking glasses connected." (●—●)
Still appearing somewhat dazed and unaware of the gravity of the situation, Baymax faithfully executed Luca's command. As he did so, Luca pressed the button on the left side of his own glasses. With a thought, a red-and-green gradient thermal imaging feed appeared on the left lens.
Luca quickly scanned the area above them; all enemies entering the perimeter were immediately visible in the thermal display.
*Tsk, tsk. Just this kind of thermal imaging with penetrative capability is enough to keep those weapon companies researching for a lifetime.*
Pushing these stray thoughts aside, Luca issued his command to Baymax.
"Baymax, initiate Destruction Mode!"
The moment the words left his lips, Baymax’s demeanor shifted instantly. The previously dull black eye-camera emitted an eerie red glow, and the voice that emanated from him became chillingly cold.
"Acknowledged!" (✪—✪)
Watching Baymax exude such a frigid, murderous aura, even Shamira was momentarily stunned.
Luca continued his instructions. "Baymax, go up there and take out all the enemies!"
"Yes! The best medical treatment is... to eliminate all enemies!!" (✪—✪)
As Baymax climbed the stairs step by step, Luca spoke to Shamira. "Aunt Shamira, follow behind Baymax, be careful, and listen to my directions."
With that, Luca sat back down in front of the monitors. Seeing that Luca had no intention of putting himself in harm's way, Shamira felt significantly more at ease. She weighed the submachine gun in her hand, disengaged the safety, and followed Baymax without a word.
Watching Shamira’s retreating back, Luca adjusted the microphone and grinned, speaking in a calm, unhurried tone.
"There are sixteen enemies around the villa. No heavy weapons. They are moving in groups of four, surrounding and infiltrating the villa from the southeast, west, and north."
"Aunt Shamira, don't show yourself just yet. Let Baymax give them a little surprise~"
...
Outside, the intruders surrounding the villa had no idea what was about to happen. A dozen or so men were carefully creeping through the darkness toward the house.
However, just as the four intruders on the western side stepped into the courtyard, the villa—which had been brightly lit with most of the rooms illuminated—suddenly plunged into total darkness. Only the light from a few streetlamps outside could barely illuminate the courtyard.
Before they could react, a massive shadow suddenly lunged from the house.
"Bang!"
A thunderous impact echoed. The lead intruder with the gun was struck as if by lightning, flying backward with a heavy thud.
"Argh! What the hell is that?!"
"Fire! Open fire!"
"Rat-tat-tat-tat—"
Muzzle flashes from two carbines sparked continuously, illuminating the surroundings with a flickering, intermittent light.
Yes, only two were firing. Because as the first man flew back, Baymax, having reached them, raised a foot and kicked the second intruder away as well.
The remaining two, upon seeing Baymax’s form, were so terrified they nearly lost their minds, frantically shifting their aim. Dense rounds rained down, striking the area around Baymax. In reality, these bullets were capable of causing some damage to Baymax’s makeshift armor, but the men’s panicked firing resulted in very poor accuracy.
Moreover, Baymax in Destruction Mode would not just stand there and let them attack.
"Command: Eliminate enemies!" (✪—✪)
His voice was a cold, mechanical drone. Baymax’s two massive hands reached out, instantly grabbing both submachine guns that were firing at him.
"Aaaaaah—"
Piercing screams erupted from both intruders. Their weapons, along with their forearms, were crushed firmly within Baymax’s fan-like hands.
"Crack! Crunch!"
The crisp sound of breaking bones echoed. The excruciating pain had already forced the two to stop firing. Ignoring the men, who were nearly unconscious from the agony, Baymax raised his arms and tossed them aside. The two intruders joined their companions, lying unconscious in the corner of the courtyard.
All of this happened in a flash. From the moment the lights went out to the gunfire and Baymax neutralizing the final man, only two or three seconds had passed.
Even so, the sound of gunfire and screaming clearly alerted the enemies approaching from the other three directions. Realizing their presence was exposed, they stopped hiding. They shouted and began sweeping the villa with gunfire. Meanwhile, the four men at the front entrance began rushing toward Baymax’s location while firing.
Down in the basement, Luca gritted his teeth and cursed under his breath.
"Damn it! My house!"
