Chapter 30: The Magical Tracking Glasses
"Hiss—"
After carefully reading the item description on the panel, Luca let out a sharp intake of breath, making his own meager contribution to global warming.
It wasn't that he didn't recognize the "Conan's Tracking Glasses," but this was the first time Luca realized that such a small gadget could integrate so many functions. Logically speaking, wiretapping, tracking, binoculars, thermal imaging—none of these functions, taken individually, could be considered particularly magical black technology.
But to condense a 20-kilometer tracking and wiretapping range, plus all those miscellaneous features, into a pair of plain-looking, ordinary glasses? And they were even thin, half-rim frames? The only thing Luca could think of that might slightly surpass this was the "E.D.I.T.H." glasses Tony Stark built for Spider-Man in the future.
"However, it seems I have just about all the necessary parts for these synthetic materials on hand?"
He rummaged around the living room again. Baymax stood to the side, watching Luca’s actions blankly, unsure if he should offer assistance. Fortunately, it didn't take long for Luca to gather all the components needed for the [Criminal Tracking Glasses].
However.
"Do bone-conduction Bluetooth headphones count as miniature earphones?"
Thinking was useless. Luca decisively lay on the floor and drew a new magic circle. He carefully placed the base frame of the glasses in the center and arranged the other synthetic materials inside one by one.
"Hmm, the tracker and wiretap are fine." He ignored the suitcase-sized tracking equipment sitting to the side. "The micro-battery is also fine." He completely disregarded how much power a button cell could actually provide. "As expected, since the size wasn't specified, the antenna qualifies too!" A satellite dish the size of a pot lid was placed at the edge of the compact magic circle.
"Whew, good, good! I really am a genius!"
Considering the synthesis required micro-earphones, Luca had a flash of inspiration. He dismantled the newly arrived set of bone-conduction headphones, leaving only a few ribbon cables and the essential vibration speakers, tossing the microphone aside. As expected, the final item passed the verification.
'If this is the case, if the synthesis panel needs a large speaker in the future, could I just put a Bluetooth headset inside a giant megaphone and have it pass?'
He pushed that unconfirmed speculation to the back of his mind. Looking at the magic circle fully equipped with materials, Luca pressed his hands down again.
"Synthesize!"
The white light surged and dissipated.
A pair of plain-looking black half-rim glasses sat quietly in the center of the circle. Without hesitation, Luca picked them up. However, upon seeing that the glasses were clean and simple, with only a single button at the front of each temple, Luca was stunned again.
"What? So many functions, and I only get these two buttons? No manual?"
It was only then that Luca remembered Baymax, who had been standing blankly beside him.
"Baymax, can you scan this and figure out how to use it?"
Upon hearing this, Baymax’s eyes lit up, and he quickly scanned the [Criminal Tracking Glasses] in Luca’s hand. However, just as Luca looked on expectantly, the robot spoke blankly.
"Structure resembles non-prescription glasses. Not a medical device. There is no relevant instruction manual in my database. Suggest wearing them."
*Thud...*
Luca, who had been waiting for an answer, collapsed onto the floor and rolled his eyes in silence. "If you don't know, why did you scan so enthusiastically..."
Before Luca could finish his sentence, Baymax extended a chubby finger and pointed at the [Tracking Glasses] in his hand. Immediately, the projection screen on Baymax's belly lit up, and various chaotic images flashed by rapidly.
"Target electronic product. There is no relevant instruction manual data. There are no similar products in the online database."
Luca was completely dumbfounded. He just stood there foolishly holding the glasses, watching Baymax perform his operations. It wasn't until the robot finished speaking that he closed his mouth and asked in utter shock, "Baymax?? You have this kind of function???"
At this moment, the screen on Baymax's belly turned off. Hearing the question, he tilted his head, looked down at Luca, and answered as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
"Yes. According to the protocol, I can download any information available on the public network through network-capable devices to enhance my nursing and medical capabilities."
Luca was stunned for a moment, then realized that the introduction for the [Tracking Glasses] did indeed mention network connectivity. However, the fact that something like Baymax could connect to the internet and even explore the internal data of a device with just a tap, without any interface or the "other party's" consent, was still a bit too outrageous.
"Public network? Any information?"
"According to the protocol, I am only allowed to download medical and nursing-related data and store it in the relevant partition. It will not affect other modules in my program."
"Uh, okay, okay."
'It seems I still underestimated the power of these black technologies. He uses this capability just to learn nursing knowledge? Isn't this guy a natural at network intrusion?'
Putting his exploration of Baymax aside for now, Luca refocused his attention on the [Tracking Glasses] in his hand.
After a moment's thought, he didn't hesitate. He took off his gold-rimmed glasses and put on the [Tracking Glasses].
'Well, that's fine. Although they are non-prescription, my original body's nearsightedness isn't very high, so it doesn't affect my vision.'
'But how do I use this thing? And what about the promised accompanying tracker and wiretap?'
Thinking this, Luca reached out and pressed the button on the left temple. The next moment, the lens in front of his left eye flickered with a faint light. Simultaneously, a very slight *click* came from the left temple.
'This is?'
Luca’s left hand reached for a small protrusion that had appeared on the temple. With a gentle flick, a button-sized device popped off. Looking at the device in his palm, and the translucent, radar-like pattern filling his left lens with a red dot blinking at the center, he realized:
"So, this is the tracker?"
"So, this is the tracker?"
The echo, delayed by a fraction of a second, reached Luca's ears through the bone-conduction headphones in the temple.
'Fine. A tracker that also doubles as a wiretap.'
With a wry smile, he popped the tracker back in. To figure out the other functions, he pressed the button on the right temple. This time, although the tracker didn't pop out, the screen that had been on his left lens switched to the right.
'What? I thought there were tons of features! What about zooming? Thermal imaging?'
Just as Luca was thinking this, the image on the right lens screen switched rapidly. First, it turned into a square frame that zoomed in on the scene before him, then immediately shifted to a red-and-green thermal view, revealing the heat distribution within Baymax’s body.
"Voice-activated? No! I didn't even say anything!"
After testing it several times, Luca was astonished to find that with these [Criminal Tracking Glasses], as long as he held the button on the temple, all other functions were controlled entirely by his thoughts. Whether he wanted to deploy the tracker, switch to tracking mode, zoom in or out on a specific spot, lock onto a target for analysis, or use thermal imaging and network connectivity—everything could be done instantly with a single thought.
The speed of recognition and the precision of the judgment were incomprehensible. The two buttons, one on each side, were actually only used to switch which eye the screen appeared on.
"Damn it! This tiny pair of glasses actually has a brainwave-sensing device integrated into it???"
