As the leader and the fourth brother were luring monsters around, a male and female player arrived running from the bottom of the map. The male Taoist held a silver snake staff, dressed in a flowing silver robe that looked quite dashing. The young female mage wore light armor and held a common Sea Soul staff, revealing no obvious indication of her level. It seemed that this handsome Taoist brother was bringing the mage sister along to level up.

Lin Jia paid no mind. Usually, when ordinary players saw Lin Jia and his brothers together, they wouldn’t even bother to check their equipment. Just by seeing their level 22 class gear, they would quietly walk away. If some happened to be a bit higher level and glanced at their weapons, they’d probably leave without a word. Their weapons alone spoke volumes: a Cursed +5 Sea Soul staff, a Cursed +3 Horse-Slaying sword, and a Cursed +3 Demon-Slaying sword. By now, many players knew what those numbers meant—deadly weapons. Absolute killing machines.

However, the Taoist in the silver robe noticed Lin Jia, the lone mage silently hiding behind the T-shaped wall, and surprisingly stopped nearby. The little mage girl, puzzled, said, “Huh? There’s a mage brother here. Why is he hiding in there?”

The male Taoist, with the ID “Nangong Zangma,” replied, “Not sure. Maybe he’s so tired from leveling that he fell asleep? Or maybe he disconnected?”

“Fell asleep?” The female mage “Feng Xi” ran behind the T-wall and knocked on Lin Jia’s motionless figure, nearly making him laugh out loud when she said, “Mage brother! Don’t sleep here! You’ll catch a cold!”

Lin Jia almost burst out laughing, speechless, so he typed a line of ellipses in the chat box: “…………”

Feng Xi was surprised and exclaimed, “Ah! So you weren’t asleep!” Even Nangong Zangma was somewhat overwhelmed by Feng Xi’s innocence and responded with a string of ellipses as well.

In the early days of the game “Legend,” the so-called “Thailand Tour Group” wasn’t as popular, so six or seven out of every ten female IDs were genuine girls. Especially among Taoists, there were quite a few authentic female players, as the Taoist’s magnificent robes strongly attracted them. Looking back, aside from cartoonish casual games, “Legend” was one of the few violent-themed games to have such a large female player base, a true legend in online gaming history!

Just then, the fourth brother and the leader came rushing back with a horde of monsters—thirty or forty wild boars and scorpion snakes howling as they closed in on them. Some faster monsters, like the tire-shaped black evil maggots and flying wedge moths, often caught up with the two brothers leading the monsters, bumping into them and forcing them to utter pained cries and slow down.

Unluckily, just as the fourth brother was about to make it back, he was sprayed by a wedge moth and petrified. The leader was too busy to rescue him. Lin Jia had no time to talk to the two players and quickly cast a firewall on the fourth brother, then used explosive flames to attract all visible monsters, preventing the fourth brother from having to escape via a random teleport scroll.

Seeing such a huge group of monsters rushing in, Nangong Zangma immediately cast invisibility with a “boom!” and hid on the spot, while the little mage Feng Xi dashed behind the T-wall and crouched beside Lin Jia. Excited by the beautiful flames Lin Jia cast, she chattered nonstop, “Wow! So many piggies! So scary!”

“Oh no! The warrior brother is surrounded. Quick, save him! Save him!” The mage girl even bravely threw small fireballs through the T-wall at the wild boars around the fourth brother, leaving Lin Jia speechless. Among mage skills, only lightning and firewall can be cast through walls; small and big fireballs cannot reach monsters behind walls.

Fortunately, the petrification from the wedge moth didn’t last long. After Lin Jia cast a firewall and repeatedly unleashed explosive flames on him, the monsters barely attacked. The leader, recovering, quickly cast a group invisibility spell so all monsters except the wedge moth surrounded Lin Jia.

The wedge moth was a strange monster. Its attack wasn’t strong, but its sight range was vast. It could see players even when invisible and seemed to have a “detect invisibility” ability. When it attacked you, nearby monsters could also see you, making it a kind of “anti-invisibility” among monsters.

What made it most hated was that it didn’t drop equipment or money, yet could petrify and reveal invisibility. In large groups, it was a player’s nightmare. Although it gave a decent 350 experience points and was fragile, its stingy nature of not dropping loot made players loathe it.

Lin Jia knew you could dig out loot from it, but after several attempts, he gave up. The best he got was some mid-level red and blue potions, occasionally some low-level gear, and sometimes nothing at all—purely a waste of time.

As a mage who had learned Firewall, Lin Jia welcomed this monster standing safely. The wedge moth’s magic defense seemed low. Like the round “black evil maggot,” both were fast monsters. Lin Jia often cast a zero-level firewall, and the monsters would scurry about like ants on a hot pan, burning to death quickly.

The barely alive fourth brother and leader returned to Lin Jia and formed a protective wall. Though puzzled about the extra small mage beside Lin Jia, the oncoming monster tide left no room for questions. Lin Jia’s zero-level firewall lasted too briefly; by the time he set enough flame coverage, the first firewall expired. He had to keep casting nonstop, consuming quite a lot of potions. Luckily, they were wealthy and didn’t care about the cost.

While Lin Jia burned monsters, the little mage beside him got excited, shouting repeatedly, “Such big fire! Such big fire! Burn them all! Burn them all!” After a while, seeing everyone focused on killing, no one paid attention to her, the silly girl said,

“Mage brother, mom says playing with fire is bad! Be careful not to wet the bed tonight!”
