Ye Sheng’s heart for Huo Mingting had died long ago.

Yet as she sat here, subjected to his cold, piercing gaze and listening to his elaborate “conspiracy theory,” she felt a chill run through her soul.

Manipulation, exploitation, scheming… He saw her as a calculating liar.

Saving lives is a doctor’s duty; how had it become, in his words, deliberate proximity?

Was it she who forced the sleeping pills into Li Mo’s mouth?

Was it she who drove Li Mo to suicide, just to control Mr. and Mrs. Li, and coerce them into helping her fabricate scandals?

How could a person’s mind be so twisted…

Ye Sheng took a deep breath and tightened her grip on the hand that held her wrist, swiftly making Huo Mingting wince in pain, his expression changing.

“Hurts, doesn’t it? Am I still as weak as you thought?”

Ye Sheng stared coldly at Huo Mingting, watching the pain flicker in his eyes. “Huo Mingting, you’ve never truly understood me.”

Suddenly she released him. Huo Mingting looked down in disbelief, his hand trembling uncontrollably.

“Of course, it's no pity. Because you won’t have the chance again.”

Ye Sheng rose, picked up her bag, and said indifferently, “Think whatever you like; your opinions are none of my concern. Likewise, whoever I choose to be with—single or married—it’s none of your business. Mind yourself and stop meddling in others’ affairs.”

With those words, she ignored the curious glances around her and walked away without a backward glance.

Huo Mingting, lost in the pain of almost having his bones crushed, watched Ye Sheng’s departing figure, his heart shaken to the core. Had he been wrong all along?

Could it be… she truly knew jujitsu?

Huo Mingting hurried after her—

Ye Sheng, in less than pleasant spirits, stepped out of the hospital and saw a car parked by the curb.

The window rolled down and Huo Xiaobei’s face, as lovely as a blossom, appeared, calling out sweetly, “Sheng Sheng!”

Ye Sheng’s eyes lit up with delight and she ran forward.

“How come you’re here too?” she teased, gently pinching Huo Xiaobei’s cheek, then looked into the car where Huo Lintong was working on a laptop.

The moment Ye Sheng approached, Huo Lintong closed the computer and smiled at her. “Came to pick you up after work.”

When Huo Mingting followed outside, he saw Ye Sheng getting into the black Bentley, holding a child, with a man seated beside her.

The door closed too quickly for Huo Mingting to catch a glimpse of the man’s face.

Was it Wan Sandao?

Or perhaps Ye, the owner of Huatai Pharmaceuticals?

Standing in the cold wind, Huo Mingting stared after the departing car, his eyes reddening as if filled with blood.

He felt he was going mad, for he was seized by the impulse to chase after the car…

Ye Sheng was truly driving him insane!

That evening, they dined on Thai food. A portion of pineapple fried rice was thoroughly polished off by Ye Sheng and Huo Xiaobei.

“Xiaobei isn’t picky at all—such a good trait,” Ye Sheng said, wiping the rice grains from Huo Xiaobei’s mouth with a napkin.

Huo Lintong replied, “Yes, easy to feed.”

Huo Xiaobei licked her lips and suddenly remarked, “Huo Cong is very picky.”

At the mention of Huo Cong, Ye Sheng froze, but she still turned to ask, “How is he picky?”

Huo Xiaobei said, “He’s just like my dad—won’t eat anything that tastes like cucumber.”

Hmm?

Ye Sheng looked at Huo Lintong. “Brother Lin, you don’t eat cucumber either?”

Huo Cong would refuse cucumber or anything with its flavor; he’d gag if he ate it. It wasn’t an allergy, merely a dislike.

Ye Sheng knew this about Huo Cong, but hadn’t realized Huo Lintong was the same.

“Yes,” Huo Lintong nodded, wrinkling his brow in distaste. “The flavor is odd.”

Ye Sheng was momentarily stunned.

The expression on Huo Lintong’s face, that frown, overlapped perfectly with Huo Cong’s, making Ye Sheng feel a momentary sense of disorientation.
