Volume One, Chapter 59: Ming Ting, You Must Help Me!
Looking into Ye Sheng’s eyes, which were devoid of warmth, Qin Minshu finally realized that Ye Sheng wasn't threatening her—he truly meant it.
All her bravado suddenly crumbled, and her gaze quivered.
“Is it really necessary…” she muttered, feeling a touch aggrieved. “I helped you rise to fame—isn't that a good thing for you? Besides, it didn’t affect you at all.”
Ye Sheng found her words amusing, watching her as a cat would watch a shameless, feigning mouse.
“Qin Minshu, you really are shameless.”
Qin Minshu’s face flushed red in an instant. Never in her life had anyone ever pointed at her and insulted her like this.
It was the first time she’d met someone as unmoved and stubborn as Ye Sheng!
Seeing that her attempt at humility had failed, Qin Minshu raised her chin defiantly, straightening her neck.
She stepped forward, lowering her body slightly, and looked down at Ye Sheng with disdain. “Do you think this will scare me? Ye Sheng, you’re far too naive. This is the capital. I have the Qin family behind me, and the Huo Corporation. What do you have?”
“Chief Ji may be your mentor,” Qin Minshu sneered, “but do you think he’ll protect you forever? Is your man as powerful as mine?”
Ye Sheng leaned back, frowning. “Your mouth stinks. It’s making me nauseous.”
Qin Minshu’s face went rigid, and she stood upright, teeth clenched.
Ye Sheng ignored her and fixed her gaze on the computer screen. Her tone was flat. “If your man is so powerful, let him hire a lawyer for you. We’ll meet in court.”
“Do you really have to make such a fuss?” Qin Minshu said coldly. “Ye Sheng, the arm can’t twist the thigh. I can apologize for the trending topic, but sometimes you need to let things go. Blowing this up will do you no good.”
Ye Sheng glanced at her. “Are you done pretending?”
Qin Minshu was momentarily speechless.
“If you’re done, get out.” Ye Sheng continued typing, unwilling to waste another word on such a person.
Qin Minshu turned to leave, but Ye Sheng, without lifting her head, reminded her, “Take your summons with you, or I’ll have it sent directly to the Huo Corporation.”
Qin Minshu shot her a venomous glare and swept up the summons.
—
Leaving Ye Sheng’s office and returning to her own, Qin Minshu felt the eyes of everyone upon her.
It was like thorns piercing her back, making every step unbearable.
Qin Minshu was the epitome of a privileged daughter: heiress of the Qin family in the capital, beautiful, academically outstanding, holding a respectable position as a doctor. Her life was one many envied.
She was used to being the center of attention, used to the spotlight. It was only natural, and she reveled in it.
But now… she had never been stared at like this before. The gazes were full of disdain, curiosity, and ridicule, as if asking: How could she be such a person?
The quiet gossip around her was like countless tiny insects burrowing into her ears—itchy and painful.
Qin Minshu couldn’t stand it any longer!
She was supposed to have consultations today, but after being humiliated like this, how could she possibly focus on her patients?
Without even requesting leave, Qin Minshu shed her white coat, slung her designer bag over her shoulder, and hurried out of the hospital, head down, under the astonished eyes of patients and nurses alike.
She drove straight to the Huo Corporation—
Huo Mingting had just finished a two-hour international meeting, rubbing his brow in exhaustion. When Chief Ji called, he paused, thinking perhaps Ye Sheng was in trouble again.
These days Ye Sheng had been trending repeatedly, almost universally condemned. He still didn’t know what kind of trouble she had gotten herself into.
He’d just asked someone to take down the latest trending topic, only to find someone else beat him to it.
He assumed it was President Zheng, but the situation seemed off. He’d specially instructed his assistant to investigate who was targeting Ye Sheng.
But Chief Ji called to complain instead, saying Qin Minshu had abandoned her post during work hours, leaving her patients behind without even requesting leave—she’d simply disappeared.
Huo Mingting frowned, about to ask why, when the office door was suddenly flung open.
“Mingting, you must help me this time—”
Chief Ji’s voice mingled with Qin Minshu’s. Huo Mingting looked at the flustered Qin Minshu, his cold gaze lifting.
“Was the trending topic your doing?”
