Too much had happened in the span of a day and a night.

Ye Sheng had fought with Qin Minshu and argued with Huo Mingting. Her nerves were stretched so thin that even when she wanted to sleep, she couldn't; a dull ache throbbed in her head.

Forcing herself to shower, she donned her pajamas, draped a blanket over her shoulders, and sat on the balcony sofa, lighting a cigarette.

She smoked slowly.

The nanny warmed a cup of milk and placed it by her side. Ye Sheng offered a quiet word of thanks.

"Miss Ye, are you hungry? Would you like me to prepare something to eat?"

Ye Sheng shook her head. "No need. Go get some rest. I’ll be fine in a moment."

The nanny didn't linger in the living room. Seeing that the time was right, she headed to the apartment across the hall to prepare breakfast.

As the sky paled to a milky white, Ye Sheng smoked in silence, her eyes deep and inscrutable.

To be honest, in both her past life and this one, she had never truly regarded Qin Minshu as a formidable opponent. She was merely a woman vying for the same man; if she wanted him, she could have him.

The man didn't matter, but life and death did.

It was already certain that her death in the previous life was linked to Qin Minshu, and the person who killed her was inextricably tied to the Qin family. Since the Qin family had gone to such lengths to ensure her demise, she knew exactly how to proceed. She would not hold back.

Ye Sheng tapped the ash from her cigarette with a slender fingertip, exhaling a cloud of white smoke.

Since returning to the country, her heart had finally begun to settle. Knowing who the enemy was meant knowing how to fight. Even with them in the shadows and her in the light, she felt no fear.

The first lesson she had learned in jiu-jitsu was "fearlessness."

The sound of the electronic lock echoed. Ye Sheng turned, cigarette in hand, to see Huo Lindong returning in the dead of night. He stood not far behind her, watching her with a calm, steady gaze.

"Brother Lin," Ye Sheng curled her lips into a smile. "I feel like biting someone."

He had spent the night researching the surveillance footage.

Though the culprit remained at large, Huo Lindong brought back a lead: the eagle-eyed man who had attacked her did indeed work at the hospital. Hotel staff who had been in contact with him noted that he carried the scent of disinfectant.

As for his true identity or name, further investigation was required.

It would take time.

"No rush. As long as the bait is sufficient, the fish will eventually bite."

Ye Sheng had discovered a pattern: whenever she moved against Qin Minshu, the eagle-eyed man appeared.

That made things much simpler. She would play to her heart's content.

Chu Yue had to remain in the hospital for another day.

At noon, Ye Sheng brought a thermos of fish head and tofu soup to feed her "savior," hoping to give the young master’s brain a bit of a boost.

Chu Yue seized the opportunity to put in a good word for his friend, but was cut off by Ye Sheng before he could finish.

She said coolly, "You and Tan Yao should know the history between me, Huo Mingting, and Qin Minshu better than anyone. That he loves Qin Minshu is an undeniable fact, and his infidelity during our marriage is set in stone. Whether it was emotional or physical, there is no fundamental difference. I don't blame him for loving Qin Minshu—love knows no right or wrong—but failing to distinguish between right and wrong is his failure."

Chu Yue sighed softly. "Mingting already regrets it. In truth, he isn't as… obsessed with Qin Minshu as you think. And as for you, he isn't entirely without feelings."

Ye Sheng’s expression remained detached and indifferent. Whether he regretted it or not, it did not change the fact that she had already died once.

"What I want was never his regret. Whether Huo Mingting regrets anything has absolutely nothing to do with me."

Ye Sheng looked straight into Chu Yue’s eyes, her voice low and steady: "I only want to seek justice for myself."

Huo Mingting stood at the door, listening, frozen in place.

What justice did she want?

What exactly did he owe her?
