Chapter 107: The Sandiro Beast

Two days had passed since the so-called annihilation plan failed, yet everyone seemed oddly lacking in a sense of urgency. On the surface, each person insisted that this battle must not be lost and prepared themselves accordingly, but in reality, they continued with their usual routines. Qi Ren had suggested patrolling, but that boy’s enthusiasm was fleeting at best—he treated patrols more like a showy game than a serious duty.

At that moment, Feng Xue was complaining because he was accompanying Liu Ji and her grandmother, watching a Japanese-style drama, apparently called Noh theater. How to describe it? It was like an opera without singing… no, that wasn’t quite right—it was more like an ancient play, slow-paced and rather confusing in plot. Throughout the theater, aside from Liu Ji, most of the audience were elderly people dressed in kimonos. Perhaps only seniors could appreciate such a slow-moving performance.

“Princess, do you find this play interesting?” Feng Xue asked Liu Ji out of sheer boredom.

“!” Liu Ji suddenly became alert. She glanced at her grandmother and, seeing that she hadn’t noticed, whispered, “Don’t call me princess! I’m only here to keep grandma company!”

“You seem really absorbed…” Feng Xue muttered, but upon catching Liu Ji’s wary glare, he decided not to press further. “I’ve cast an illusion over us so ordinary people won’t hear our conversation. Feel free to speak openly. Besides, I’m suffocating in here. I’m going out for some fresh air. If anything happens, just call my name in your mind.”

Without waiting for Liu Ji’s response, he swiftly slipped out of the theater.

Passing by, he stumbled upon a rather bewildering scene—

Kiryu was being pushed around by a group of children in a shopping cart.

“What the hell is going on here?” Feng Xue vaguely recalled a similar scene in the original story, but he still felt a twinge of embarrassment. Was this dinosaur really a digital beast? Or just some kind of childcare toy disguised as one?

Then, upon seeing tissue paper stuffed into Kiryu’s nostrils, Feng Xue decided it was best not to meddle further. On second thought, Kiryu hadn’t even been born for half a year. Compared to the usual growth period of hundreds or thousands of years, it was barely a toddler. In that light, its behavior was age-appropriate.

Just as Feng Xue was about to leave, a voice caught his attention—

“Stuffed nostrils and still this happy? What an idiot! A genuine idiot! Idiot Beast!”

Although Feng Xue thought the little demon beast’s words were not inappropriate, he detected a strong, almost jealous envy in the tone.

“I’m telling you, little guy…”

“Eh? Don’t sneak up behind people like that—you nearly scared me to death!” The little demon beast was startled and spun around sharply.

“But you’re not human…” Feng Xue retorted coldly. “Putting that aside, are you envious of Kiryu? Why don’t you get a beast tamer?”

“Are you kidding? How could I envy that idiot?” The little demon beast’s face flushed slightly as it flailed its tiny hands in denial.

“Is that so? Well, suit yourself…” Feng Xue said nothing more. Some things couldn’t be changed with a few words. Just as the lion beast in the digital series was destined to die embracing the hero’s justice, this little demon beast would surely replace the original impish beast in becoming the story’s turning point.

But what would this little demon beast evolve into?

To contend with the Destruction Demon Dragon in the short term, it would need to evolve into one of the top-level ultimate forms.

Since most characters with storylines in the digital series don’t repeat species, the little demon beast probably wouldn’t evolve into the almost pre-assigned Beelzebub Beast. The possibilities were Lilith Beast, Ultimate Demon Beast, or Baruba Beast.

But would it really be that simple?

If the little demon beast first evolved into Beelzebub Beast, then what about Feng Xue? Which path should he take?

The bickering little demon beast suddenly stopped, noticing that its interlocutor had fallen into deep thought. Annoyed, it flapped its tiny wings and flew away.

…

“Feng Xue!” The voice jolted Feng Xue from his reverie. It came faintly through some mysterious connection—Liu Ji’s voice!

“Damn, is there another imperial demon?” Feng Xue dashed toward the call, unleashing the spatial aptitude of his demon beast. Anything solid that touched him would pass through without hindering his speed.

“Sandyros Beast—it really is an imperial demon!” Feng Xue’s expression darkened as he stared at the giant serpent. Imperial demons were unlike ordinary ultimates; even standing still, they were nearly impervious to attacks from mature-stage beasts.

“Feng Xue, you’re here?” Liu Ji picked up the phone from the ground. “This one feels off—doesn’t seem eager to fight immediately.”

“Hmm, probably planning to gather as many allies as possible before wiping us out in one blow,” Feng Xue said, watching Sandyros Beast glare at him before fleeing along the railway tracks. A wave of helplessness washed over him.

“Chase after it!” Liu Ji urged. Although Feng Xue could fly, in his butler form he was smaller than most demon beasts, making it hard to carry passengers while maintaining speed.

Seeing Feng Xue hesitate, Liu Ji immediately understood his dilemma and pulled out a card—

“Card swap! Night Demon Beast!”

The red-covered digital beast materialized as data surged into Feng Xue’s body. Instantly, his height more than doubled from adult size. His originally platinum tailcoat was now inscribed with countless eerie red and black runes, giving off a sinister and otherworldly aura.

“Why not Evil Dragon Beast… never mind, this will do!” Feng Xue knew Liu Ji’s card reserves were limited; this was a decent option. Cradling Liu Ji—who barely filled his palm now—he sped after Sandyros Beast.

“Quick! This imperial demon is destroying the subway!” Liu Ji shouted sharply. Feng Xue naturally noticed the chaos ahead.

The imperial demon was extraordinary indeed—it could completely digitize real-world matter. The subway appeared to shatter like an image, fragments dissolving into countless data swallowed by Sandyros Beast.

“There's a child!” Not only Feng Xue saw it; Sandyros Beast, facing the subway, spotted the infant too. Without hesitation, it spat out a divine weapon bestowed upon it—the Treasure Spear!

“Card swap! Battle Tyrannosaurus Beast—the Shield of the Brave!” Li Jianliang’s voice rang out as the big-eared beast raised a shield engraved with the Medal of Courage, blocking the divine weapon.

Fortunately, the Treasure Spear was fully manifested from Sandyros Beast’s power; once it touched its target, it would vanish instantly, whether or not it caused destruction. Otherwise, even the Shield of the Brave, forged from digital alloy, would struggle to withstand such an ultimate-level weapon.
