Chapter 5: Eating to Increase Soul Power
As expected!
After personally eating the meat bun, Mo Hui immediately understood the difference between the two. The previous braised chicken leg was made from actual ingredients, so after absorbing the energy, there were leftovers. But this meat bun was created by a Food Soul Master using a Martial Soul, synthesized purely from soul power, so naturally, there were no residues.
“Bobo~”
Soon, Bobo finished the meat bun in front of him. Looking at the empty table, Bobo gazed longingly at Mo Hui.
Seeing this, Mo Hui promptly placed the last bun in front of Bobo.
“Uh~”
After finishing another bun, Bobo let out a satisfied burp, patted its slightly rounded belly, and signaled its desire to return to Mo Hui’s body.
Without hesitation, Mo Hui agreed and summoned Bobo back.
Unexpectedly, once inside Mo Hui’s body, Bobo brought the energy it had absorbed during its meal along with it.
“This is not good!”
Mo Hui thought urgently. He had just finished meditating, and his soul power was already at full capacity. Although summoning Bobo to fight Wang Sheng had drained some energy, the brief rest had nearly restored it.
Since his soul power hadn’t been heavily consumed and now he had gained the extra energy Bobo absorbed from eating two meat buns, his total soul power instantly exceeded his body’s limit. His tendons and muscles began to throb with a faint stinging sensation.
“I must immediately convert this excess energy into soul power, or it could harm my body!”
Mo Hui made a swift decision and closed his eyes to meditate.
The surplus energy surged wildly inside him like a raging flood, but under Mo Hui’s careful guidance, it was eventually pacified.
About ten minutes later, Mo Hui opened his eyes, a trace of delight shining on his face.
Though the situation had been dangerous, after this tumultuous influx of excess energy, his body’s capacity to bear soul power had slightly increased.
In other words, his level had risen by nearly 1%. This brief boost surpassed the progress he had made in his previous four hours of cultivation!
Yet as the excitement faded, Mo Hui felt the soreness throughout his body and sighed helplessly, “This is a blessing in disguise, but it was a bit reckless. If I want to rely on this method in the future, I must be more cautious.”
This approach of raising soul power carried considerable risk. To cultivate using this method, he would have to conduct numerous experiments to determine the relationship between excess energy and his body’s tolerance. Only then could he balance risk with the speed of soul power advancement.
And naturally, the test subject was himself.
---
Experimenting in unfamiliar territory was inherently dangerous, but if he wanted rapid growth in soul power, he had to bear the risk.
“Indeed, no cultivation system can be underestimated—even one as notoriously difficult as Douluo Continent,” Mo Hui mused inwardly.
After finishing the remaining food in large mouthfuls, Mo Hui packed two more meat buns and descended from the second floor of the cafeteria.
He glanced briefly and saw Wang Sheng was no longer there—apparently, Wang Sheng had left after Mo Hui delayed for a short while.
Returning to Dormitory Seven, he found many more people inside, and Wang Sheng was among them.
Upon seeing Mo Hui enter, Wang Sheng immediately stood and addressed the others in the dormitory, “This is Mo Hui, a new work-study student. I fought him earlier, and I lost.”
Those words caused a stir. Wang Sheng actually lost?
All eyes turned to Mo Hui. Seeing his youthful appearance, only six or seven years old, they were even more astonished. How could someone so young defeat Wang Sheng?
They knew soul power significantly enhanced the body’s strength, and Wang Sheng’s soul power was already at level 8—the highest among them.
Mo Hui smiled and nodded in response to their scrutiny, saying, “Hello, my name is Mo Hui. Wang Sheng has roughly told me the situation. I don’t like being called ‘Boss,’ so you can just call me by my name or ‘Dorm Leader.’”
“Hello, Dorm Leader!” the children chorused.
“If you need anything, come to me. I’ll help if I can—provided it doesn’t interfere with my cultivation.”
With that, Mo Hui quickly returned to his bed and soon entered a meditative state.
Seeing this, the children breathed a sigh of relief. They had worried the new leader might be difficult, but now he seemed alright.
Time passed swiftly during cultivation, and soon it was the next day.
---
The next morning, after a night of cultivation, Mo Hui opened his eyes, feeling the soul power within, and smiled with satisfaction.
Though the Bobo meditation method progressed slowly, the long hours of practice had still brought noticeable improvement.
His soul power level had nearly reached 3.42%. This 2% increase was partly due to his overnight cultivation and partly thanks to the extra energy Bobo brought in yesterday, which enhanced his body’s tolerance for soul power.
Most gratifyingly, the soreness Mo Hui had felt yesterday from the excess energy had completely healed after a night of meditation.
This meant that with proper caution, he could let Bobo eat and then recall it each day, allowing his body to adapt to the sensation of excess energy. Doing so would accelerate his cultivation far beyond expectations.
---
“But I must still be careful. Yesterday’s excess energy wasn’t much, and it already caused pain. If the surplus were too great, even if it didn’t cause my body to explode, it would surely be unbearable,” Mo Hui thought silently.
Looking around, he was surprised to find Wang Sheng also meditating.
Children naturally loved to play, and due to his transmigration, Mo Hui’s spiritual power far exceeded that of ordinary children, enabling him to meditate for long periods. Yet even Wang Sheng could meditate through the night—these work-study students were indeed diligent!
What Mo Hui did not know was that shortly after he began meditating, the other children in the dorm saw his industriousness and started meditating themselves.
However, the tedium of meditation proved too much for them, and after a few hours, they gave up.
As for Wang Sheng, he had gotten up a few hours earlier to use the restroom, noticed Mo Hui still meditating, and felt a surge of urgency that prompted him to resume meditation. In reality, he had only meditated for four or five hours the night before.
After waking and a quick wash, Mo Hui went to the cafeteria’s second floor to buy breakfast.
Then he headed to the playground for physical training, where he met Mo Hen.
“Xiao Hui, training your body, huh? So diligent!” Mo Hen slowed his pace as he approached, clearly pleased.
“Uncle Mo Hen, I heard that the body affects the absorption of soul rings, so I want to train to get a hundred-year first soul ring!” Mo Hui said while jogging.
“You have ambition, Xiao Hui. I’ll do my best to help you get a hundred-year soul ring,” Mo Hen said, giving him a thumbs-up.
For ordinary Soul Masters, obtaining a first soul ring from a hundred-year spirit beast is quite difficult. On one hand, teachers at junior schools are generally only at the level of two-ring Great Soul Masters, and hunting a hundred-year spirit beast carries some risk, so unless by luck, teachers rarely allow students to hunt for such a soul ring.
On the other hand, students’ physical endurance is often weak, and there is a risk of failure when attaching a hundred-year soul ring. Though the chance is small, failure can be fatal. Therefore, unless the student is a genius, teachers prefer to find soul rings with lifespans of several decades for their students.
“Ding-ling-ling~~”
After some training, the preparation bell rang. Mo Hui quickly ran to the teaching building, beginning his first day of study at Notting Academy.
