Chapter 38: The Wind-Stabilizing Pearl
"I just saw Mo Hui, and his soul power is only at level thirty-one. How could he possibly defeat Xiaotian?" Feng Qingcang asked, his voice laced with disbelief.
"It was a self-created soul skill!"
Seeing Feng Qingcang’s skepticism, Feng Yan immediately explained, "During his battle with Feng Xiaotian, Mo Hui revealed two self-created soul skills. One allows him to merge multiple ordinary wind blades into a single, massive wind blade, while the other allows him to assemble wind blades into a high-speed rotating wind wheel.
"Both skills are incredibly powerful, but that wind wheel possesses overwhelming armor-piercing capabilities. Xiaotian’s wings were easily severed by it, instantly shattering his 'Eighteen Consecutive Slashes of the Gale Demon Wolf.' What’s more terrifying is that the wheel can be manipulated by Mo Hui for both offense and defense; even the dozens of wind blades Xiaotian unleashed at the end were completely blocked by it."
"A multi-in-one wind blade, and a wind wheel made of blades?"
Feng Qingcang frowned, pondering what these two self-created skills might look like. Suddenly, his eyes widened, and he let out a long breath. "Hiss... these two self-created skills are extraordinary!"
"What’s wrong, Dean?" Feng Yan asked, confused by Feng Qingcang’s reaction. These skills were indeed powerful, but as a Soul Saint and the long-time head of Kamikaze Academy, Feng Qingcang had seen countless geniuses; he shouldn’t be this rattled.
Feng Qingcang composed himself, his expression turning grave as he addressed Feng Yan: "These two self-created soul skills very likely have the potential for widespread adoption!"
"What? Potential for widespread adoption?!"
Hearing this, Feng Yan gasped. He knew exactly what it meant for a self-created skill to be widely teachable. Generally, such skills are developed based on a soul master’s unique circumstances, making them the most tailored techniques for that specific individual. Even if others obtained the training method, they often could not unleash the full power, or might be unable to learn it at all due to missing specific requirements.
Take Feng Xiaotian’s "Eighteen Consecutive Slashes of the Gale Demon Wolf," for example. It not only requires the user to possess extreme speed and substantial strength, but also necessitates a powerful wing-based ultimate move. Even with those conditions met, the power-accumulation mode is incredibly complex, making it unsuitable for general teaching.
In truth, most self-created soul skills are usable only by their creators; those that can be passed on are exceedingly rare.
However, Mo Hui’s skills were clearly different. As a Soul Saint, Feng Qingcang realized after a moment’s thought that these techniques were not inherently difficult, nor were their requirements high. After all, for a wind-attribute soul master, possessing a wind blade skill is as common as breathing. The only real requirement was precise control over soul power, which could be honed through training.
Excitement surged within Feng Qingcang. He couldn't wait to head to Hurricane Canyon to find Mo Hui. But he stopped after a few steps. He had been too impulsive; self-created skills are the lifeblood of a soul master—no one would just hand them over easily. To use his status as Dean to pressure the boy would be shameless; he would rather spend his life researching them himself.
While agonizing over this, Feng Qingcang looked at Feng Yan and hurriedly asked, "Teacher Yan, what do you suggest I do to make Mo Hui voluntarily offer his self-created skills to the academy?"
"Offer them to the academy?" Feng Yan’s eyes lit up. If they could truly be brought into the academy, wouldn't they, as teachers, be able to learn them too? But then he frowned, uncertain. "Voluntarily... that seems unlikely. After all, they are self-created skills."
Creating such a skill requires immense time, energy, and a flash of inspiration. From ancient times, these skills—especially those capable of being inherited—have been treated as precious clan treasures. Expecting someone to give them up willingly was nearly impossible.
*Sigh.* Feng Qingcang sighed as well. He realized he had been overly optimistic. If that failed, he would have no choice but to research them on his own, though knowing the final result is one thing, and successfully recreating it is another. One could easily get stuck at a certain stage for a lifetime.
Just as Feng Qingcang was about to give up, Feng Yan suddenly spoke: "Perhaps there is a way."
"What way?" Feng Qingcang asked, his eyes brightening.
"As the saying goes, if the other party is unwilling, perhaps it is because the price isn't high enough. If we could offer something like a ten-thousand-year soul bone, perhaps Mo Hui would be willing to trade," Feng Yan suggested.
"..."
Feng Qingcang twitched at the mention of a ten-thousand-year soul bone. He only possessed a thousand-year soul bone, which he had already absorbed. How could he possibly produce such a thing? However, Feng Yan’s words gave him an idea.
After a moment of hesitation, Feng Qingcang pulled a cyan-colored bead from his storage device and said, "I don't have a ten-thousand-year soul bone, but I’ve noticed that Mo Hui seems unusually fond of cultivation. Perhaps this will move him!"
Seeing the item, Feng Yan was shocked: "Isn't this the 'Wind-Stabilizing Bead' you treat like a treasure? You wouldn't even give it to Xiaotian, yet you are willing to give it away now?"
"It is a fine item, but it is of no great use to me now. If Xiaotian were more diligent, I might have given it to him, but..." Feng Qingcang sighed, unwilling to say more.
The Wind-Stabilizing Bead was something Feng Qingcang had obtained by chance after killing an unknown soul beast. It wasn't a soul bone and couldn't be absorbed, but it possessed the heaven-defying ability to neutralize wind-attribute soul attacks and convert them into pure wind energy. If it weren't capped at the Soul Emperor level and thus of limited use to him, he would never have considered parting with it.
Having made up his mind, Feng Qingcang headed toward Hurricane Canyon. He could only hope that the bead would be enough to persuade the boy. If he still refused, then he would have no choice but to study the techniques himself.
………………
In the core area of Hurricane Canyon, the wind howled. A Pidgeot stood atop a cliff edge, acting like the most loyal of bodyguards, its eyes locked onto every movement in the vicinity.
"Pidgeot!"
Suddenly, the Pidgeot’s eyes pierced through the gale, as if it had discovered something. It immediately flew to Mo Hui’s side and nudged him gently.
Mo Hui opened his eyes, asking with some confusion, "Pidgeot, what happened?"
He hoped he wasn't so unlucky; he had only just begun his meditation—could something have happened in Hurricane Canyon again?
