Chapter 34: The Duel with Feng Xiaotian
"A... a thousand-year spirit ring!"
Feng Jiege stared at the yellow, yellow, and purple spirit rings rising from Mo Hui’s feet. The pale purple of that thousand-year ring, in particular, was blinding.
"A thousand-year spirit ring! He really is a level thirty spirit master. A level thirty spirit master at such a young age!"
The crowd gathered around the Spirit Fighting Arena was stunned; achieving the rank of Spirit Master at such a tender age was truly unbelievable.
"Green Wind Eagle, possess!"
At the referee’s command, Feng Jiege’s second spirit ring flared instantly. Green feathers emerged across his body as he charged toward Mo Hui. His second spirit skill, Wind Eagle Possession, increased his attack and speed by forty percent. At this moment, his speed was not much inferior to that of an agility-type spirit master of the same rank.
"Air Cutter!"
Facing the charge, Mo Hui did not dodge. Instead, his first spirit ring flashed rapidly. The Pidgeotto hovering above him flapped its wings, launching several cyan wind blades, each over two feet long, which reached Feng Jiege in an instant.
Feng Jiege was startled by the speed of the blades. It wasn't that he hadn't seen wind blades before—within the Kamikaze Academy, there were countless wind-blade-type spirit skills—but he had never encountered ones this fast.
"First spirit skill, Wind Eagle Claw!"
Realizing he couldn't evade the attack, Feng Jiege immediately activated his own first skill, hoping to deflect the Pidgeotto’s Air Cutter. But the Pidgeotto's Air Cutter was not so easily parried. While the power of a single blade was moderate, Mo Hui’s spirit power was far superior to Feng Jiege’s. Despite giving it his all, Feng Jiege could not withstand the force of the blades and collapsed, injured.
The arena fell into a deathly silence. Feng Jiege’s strength was respectable, yet he had been defeated with such ease. It was clear that this younger student’s power was beyond their reach.
Mo Hui scanned the onlookers. "Is there any other senior who would like to offer some pointers?"
"I will!"
Provoked by Mo Hui’s arrogance, a handsome young man of about twenty-two or twenty-three years old flapped his wings and descended onto the stage. "Feng Yaozu, martial spirit Wind-Chasing Eagle, level thirty-three agility-type Spirit Master. Please enlighten me!"
...
Elsewhere, Feng Xiaotian had heard news of a master fighting in the arena. Intrigued, he brought Feng Yunfan along to watch. However, when he saw the figure standing on the stage, surrounded by a crowd of people receiving medical treatment, he froze.
"It’s him! And he’s actually broken through to become a Spirit Master!" Feng Yunfan’s jaw nearly hit the floor.
Beside him, Feng Xiaotian looked dazed. He and Feng Yunfan had watched Mo Hui break through to level twenty-four just a year ago. He had only just reached level forty himself, yet this person had already attained the rank of Spirit Master. At this rate, how long would it take for the other boy to catch up to him? And he was the one with innate full spirit power!
After a moment of distraction, Feng Xiaotian clenched his fists and climbed onto the stage. "I will be your opponent. Don't worry, I will restrict my spirit power to match yours. How about that?"
Although the opponent's cultivation speed was fast, he was the strongest within his own rank. He was a genius capable of creating his own spirit skills!
"No need, just use your full strength," Mo Hui replied.
Hearing this, Feng Xiaotian was incensed. How could this person look down on him so much? The gap in spirit power levels was significant, especially since he was nine levels ahead of Mo Hui; usually, such a gap would result in an instant defeat.
Feng Xiaotian snorted. "Fine, as you wish. I will use my full strength. Don't regret it!"
"Recover your spirit power first. Fight me when you are in your prime, so you can see the true gap between us."
Mo Hui shook his head. "No need. Let's begin now." He had defeated the others in one or two moves; he hadn't expended much spirit power at all.
"Fine, very well!" Feng Xiaotian laughed in anger. A faint cyan light surged around him as his body grew, and a savage, cyan wolf head appeared on his right shoulder.
Across from him, Mo Hui entered his combat stance, a faint green light emanating from the Pidgeotto, its eyes locked onto Feng Xiaotian.
"The battle begins!"
As the fight started, Feng Xiaotian transformed into a blue blur, charging toward Mo Hui with speed that rivaled an agility-type spirit master of his own level.
Mo Hui’s eyes narrowed as his first spirit ring flashed rapidly. Several wind blades shot from the Pidgeotto, cutting off Feng Xiaotian’s path.
"Such fast wind blades!"
Feng Xiaotian’s second spirit ring lit up, and he twisted his body at an incredibly sharp angle, dodging the blades. His second skill, Twin Wolf Possession, increased his attack, defense, and agility by fifty percent—a terrifying boost for a second skill.
The distance across the arena was short, and Feng Xiaotian was soon in front of Mo Hui.
"First spirit skill, Wind Blade Array!"
Feng Xiaotian’s hands became like claws as ten semi-circular cyan wind blades shot out, aiming to seal off all of Mo Hui’s escape routes.
However, Mo Hui was not about to let him succeed. His second spirit ring flared, and he moved like a phantom, instantly vacating his position and leaving Feng Xiaotian’s array to strike nothing but air.
"What!"
Feng Xiaotian was shocked. The speed Mo Hui had just displayed was faster than his own.
"Such speed... could he be a pure-agility-type spirit master?" Feng Xiaotian wondered to himself. In his view, that was the only explanation. But pure-agility spirit masters had a fatal flaw: while they were fast, their attack power was usually lacking.
Suddenly, Feng Xiaotian’s eyes lit up. He thought he had found Mo Hui’s weakness.
But before he could strike, a shocking sight unfolded.
"Air Cutter: Six-in-One!"
As Mo Hui’s first spirit ring glowed, the Pidgeotto flapped its wings rapidly, launching six wind blades at once. As they moved toward Feng Xiaotian, the blades twisted and fused together, forming a massive, three-meter-long wind blade that descended upon him.
Wind blades could be used like that?
Staring at the giant cyan blade, Feng Xiaotian was stunned. This had to be a self-created spirit skill. The spectators below were equally dumbfounded—they had never heard of wind blades being fused into a giant one.
