Jace’s choice made Chen Yan want to laugh. It wasn’t that Chen Yan looked down on iCon, but for domestic players, whether it’s top-lane Jace or mid-lane Jace, it’s basically impossible to master him.

So even if Jace had a slight edge against Cassiopeia in lane, Chen Yan remained completely unbothered.

When the camera cut to iCon, he was beaming brightly.

Zeng Zeyuan also remarked, “Oh, Jace mid? Looks like they’re giving the rookie a lesson.”

Zhihuan nodded. “Jace is good against Cassiopeia before level six, but if Cassiopeia plays well, Jace can’t suppress her.”

“Let’s see if this rookie Chen Yan can surprise us.”

“No more talk, let the match decide!”

The countdown on the stage ended.

Nofe patted Chen Yan on the shoulder, encouraging him, “Play like you usually do; don’t be nervous.”

On the other side, OMG’s coach was giving tactical instructions.

iCon showed some impatience. “Watch me crush them this game.”

He usually didn’t dare pick Jace, but since the opponent was a rookie mid-laner, he believed his Jace skills were more than enough.

With both coaches leaving, the game entered the loading screen.

Lineups:

EDG (Blue side): Top – Ornn, Jungle – Lee Sin, Mid – Cassiopeia, Bottom – Ashe, Support – Thresh.

OMG (Red side): Top – Maokai, Jungle – Elise, Mid – Jace, Bottom – Tristana, Support – Malzahar.

Chen Yan did a quick analysis: EDG’s composition was more solid; OMG’s two carry positions struggled to handle EDG’s frontline. The longer the game dragged on, the higher EDG’s chance of winning.

But EDG wasn’t powerless early or mid-game.

The top and bottom lanes were basically even — neither side could dominate the other.

The key was mid and jungle.

Whoever’s mid-jungle duo took the initiative would control the early-to-mid game tempo.

So the mid-lane matchup and mid-jungle skirmishes were critical.

With that in mind, Chen Yan took the initiative and told his teammates, “I’ll lead this game. Whether I’m right or not, you must follow my calls during the match. Any disagreements can be discussed after.”

“Any questions?”

No one objected. After all, Chen Yan was effectively taking full responsibility — if they lost, it was on him, not them.

So following his lead was no problem.

The scene shifted; all ten players appeared in their respective fountains.

The match began.

At the same time, a system alert sounded in Chen Yan’s mind.

[Beep! System match task activated]

[Task: At post-match data settlement, host’s damage share ≥ 40%.]

[Current progress: 0% / 40%]

[Reward: Skill Precision]

[Precision: Enhances damage calculation ability]

Skill!

Seeing the system reward, Chen Yan was overjoyed.

Every esports skill was a great boost to strength.

“As expected, playing professionally gives more rewards,” Chen Yan sighed, weighing the difficulty of the system task.

The reward was good, but only if he could achieve it.

After analysis, Chen Yan judged the reward relatively attainable.

In EDG’s lineup, Cassiopeia was the easiest target to rack up damage on.

If the game dragged long enough, reaching 40% damage share would be straightforward.

He had initially wanted to end quickly, but now, for the task, he had to reconsider.

Though it felt long, in reality, it was just a moment.

As fountain protection faded, Chen Yan called for a level one team fight.

“A level one fight?” His teammates hesitated.

Chen Yan frowned. “Just follow my call. We have two hook champions; not fighting level one is a waste.”

At this stage of professional games, LPL’s level one fights were rudimentary and seldom played, unlike LCK, where there were more level one fight tactics.

Naturally, OMG wasn’t heavily prepared.

When Meiko spotted the enemy support, he flashed to break Malzahar’s passive shield and then predicted Malzahar’s flash location with a hook.

Malzahar flashed but collided directly with Meiko’s Thresh hook.

“Meiko’s Thresh!”

“Breaking the shield with an auto, then hooking the flash location — truly Thresh mastery!”

Zeng Zeyuan and Zhihuan shouted excitedly.

In the game, Five immediately sacrificed himself.

After Thresh’s control, Ornn followed up.

Chen Yan seized the moment, using his E skill to secure the kill.

“First Blood!”

First blood went to Cassiopeia.

iCon’s expression immediately soured, but with Five blaming himself on voice chat, iCon didn’t dare lash out.

“No worries, let him have that kill.”

But EDG’s assault didn’t stop there. After killing Malzahar, EDG openly invaded OMG’s blue buff.

“Can’t hold the buff? I’ll take red then, you just hold lane,” World6, seeing EDG’s aggressive play, backed off and handed the blue buff to Lee Sin.

“Huh? EDG’s rhythm feels smoother today.”

Zeng Zeyuan and Zhihuan exchanged a glance, puzzled.

Though EDG’s macro was strong, their pace was usually slow. Today, however, EDG’s pressure felt intense.

Right from the start, EDG piqued everyone’s interest.

Having secured enough advantage at level one, EDG ceased further aggression.

Chen Yan took the opportunity to recall, exchanging his 400 gold first blood bounty for combat power.

Corrupting Potion + Amplifying Tome.

This starting build was standard for mages, especially now since the tome offered excellent value — boosting ability power, mana, and increasing potion recovery by 25%.

Mid lane.

Chen Yan controlled Cassiopeia, moving up with the minions.

Against Jace, Cassiopeia struggled before level six because Jace had two skill sets.

But with the added tome, Chen Yan felt confident.

He pushed the wave forward, drank the corrupting potion proactively, and used his E to harass Jace.

Jace responded with auto-Q, but kept retreating.

iCon didn’t dare engage in melee to hammer Cassiopeia because, aside from her flash, Cassiopeia had a crippling skill.

His secondary skill to complement flash was healing.

If he closed in, Cassiopeia’s crippling effect would likely lead to him being solo killed.

Weighing the risk, iCon didn’t fight Cassiopeia all-in at level one.

“Jace’s scared!” The chat showed surprise.

Zhihuan explained, “Jace is weak at level one, and Cassiopeia has the tome.”

“But we can’t let Cassiopeia play so comfortably,” Zeng Zeyuan commented.

Zhihuan added, “Jace waits till level two. That’s his window.”

As he spoke, Jace’s glow flashed on screen; he leveled up.

“Electro Harpoon!”

A cold gleam flashed in iCon’s eyes as he combined Q and E, firing towards Cassiopeia.

But Cassiopeia dodged with a backward sidestep.

iCon hesitated but pressed on, using his speed boost to trigger a stored ranged passive, then quickly switched to melee, Vaulting onto Cassiopeia.

Chen Yan remained calm; the crippling debuff clung to Jace.

Jace responded with a hammer swing and used E to knock Cassiopeia back while activating healing and speed boost to retreat, avoiding the crippling duration.

Both traded damage rapidly, health bars dropping fast.

After the debuff faded, iCon re-engaged, trading blows with Cassiopeia.

Both dropped below half health, continuing to bleed.

“They’re both in kill range!”

Everyone’s eyes widened; the critical moment had arrived.

Q-flash!

Suddenly, Jace switched back to cannon form and flashed towards Cassiopeia with Q.

But Cassiopeia reacted just as fast.

She flashed nearly simultaneously, dodging Jace’s Q.

“It's over!” iCon’s face went pale.

The next second, Jace, having missed his skill, was eliminated by Cassiopeia.

“EDG’s Chen Yan kills OMG’s iCon.”

The system kill alert sounded.

The arena fell silent.

A solo kill! An extreme solo kill!
