Staring at the tea offered before her, Lolise was somewhat puzzled. She knew she was currently invisible, and the fact that the other party could see her indicated considerable skill; normally, she would have already drawn her dagger. But this time, the elderly man before her appeared very friendly, and Su Yi respectfully addressed him as “sir.” This attitude left her uncertain whether he was friend or foe, so she could only look up at Su Yi’s face.

“She has insomnia at night and can’t drink tea!” Su Yi shouted casually, his eyes scanning the old man three times. Then, he grabbed Lolise’s hand and swiftly climbed the stairs, disappearing from view.

“So young, and already suffering from insomnia? What a pitiful child,” the white-haired old man murmured with pity, sipping from his cup. Inwardly, he grumbled, “What exactly does that brat Xidai want? Begging me to come to Luocheng to take charge and yet won’t say a word.”

“Forget it. I’m retired; why bother thinking so much? Time to find someone to play chess with,” the old man chuckled warmly as he returned to his room.

...

“Why did this guy move in next door? Is my acting at school not perfect enough that I was exposed so blatantly? The government’s efficiency is just too high—only an hour has passed, and the watcher is already living next door,” Su Yi paced back and forth at home, deep in thought about the old man downstairs.

Judging from the old man’s physique, he was robust and likely trained in some discipline. Unlike ordinary Blue Star inhabitants, he emitted a faint energy fluctuation.

This was the first Blue Star native Su Yi had discovered to show any energy signature, though Su Yi could easily overpower a hundred of such fluctuations with one hand.

Some strong individuals liked to conceal their aura, playing the “acting dumb” game, so one couldn’t judge strength solely by energy signals.

Moreover, the old man had seen through Lolise’s invisibility at a glance...

“This still isn’t right,” Su Yi pinched his chin, his expression grave. “Even if he could see through it, why did he show no surprise when facing invisible Lolise? Even he would rely on sensing aura, temperature, and energy fluctuations to detect someone. But the old man was utterly unfazed—he must have known all along.”

“He’s been secretly watching them for a long time!”

“What a cunning opponent. Being monitored for so long without the slightest suspicion.”

“This is a declaration of war! A blatant declaration of war,” Su Yi thought firmly. The old man’s gentle and friendly demeanor clearly meant everything was under control.

Damn it. Anyone who thinks they can easily deal with him is gravely mistaken!

Su Yi’s face turned icy as he clenched his fists tightly. He had always kept a low profile, avoiding trouble, but that didn’t mean he would be afraid when real danger arrived.

Replacing all the teachers at school was one thing.

But brazenly placing a watcher right next door crossed his bottom line. No one would tolerate a vicious wolf living outside their home, ready to strike at any moment.

He would uncover the old man’s true intentions. If they harbored ill will and posed a genuine threat, Su Yi would not hesitate to teach them the meaning of fear.

“Lolise, the plan has changed. Tomorrow, continue following me to school,” Su Yi said decisively, turning to the girl.

Lolise, who had no idea what Su Yi was thinking but found his overly friendly attitude strange—almost as if the old man next door might be a high-ranking Swordsman official eating stinky tofu—suddenly looked up sharply.

“Yes, sir...” Her mouth was full, and she hadn’t swallowed yet, so she stammered. Taking a deep breath, she swallowed everything down and added, “Sir, why can we go to school again?”

“Didn’t you notice? The old man downstairs is unusual. It’s the first time I’ve seen someone who could see through your invisibility,” Su Yi whispered, deliberately lowering his voice as he glanced out the door.

“The first time? A stranger! So he’s not an acquaintance of the sir...”

“Then he’s the enemy!”

Lolise’s expression shifted instantly, her soft face hardening with deadly resolve. She assumed a combat stance, dagger in hand, just like when they first met.

“Sir, should I kill him?”

Her voice was ice-cold, her eyes devoid of emotion.

“Not yet. We need to probe his strength and intentions first,” Su Yi pressed her hand down, shaking his head. No matter the situation, intelligence was paramount. One should never fight a battle without confidence. Now was not the time to act.

“Then... how do we gather intelligence?” Lolise asked quietly.

As a soldier, she had only been responsible for stealth, assassination, and combat in the wastelands. Gathering intelligence was unfamiliar territory.

However, she had asked the right person. With over a thousand high-risk missions completed, Su Yi had honed himself into a hexagonal warrior. He had even authored the Swordsman’s intelligence operative training manual.

“Your database should include the four essentials of intelligence gathering,” Su Yi said as he led her into his bedroom.

“Yes, they are: observe, listen, question, and analyze!” Lolise’s eyes gleamed green as she answered quickly.

Su Yi nodded approvingly. It seemed the Swordsmen had not forgotten his teachings during their years away from the wasteland. These four elements were summarized from traditional Chinese medical diagnostic methods.

Observe: Closely monitor the target’s every move, judging from their actions and behavior.

Listen: Not limited to hearing alone, but broadly collecting publicly available information and stealing confidential intelligence to narrow down the investigation.

Question: Use abduction, probing, temptation, and other means to extract relevant information from weaker individuals.

Analyze: If all else fails and the target’s identity remains a secret, then the conclusion is to eliminate them at all costs.

It was not yet time to analyze, so Su Yi decided to start with “observe.” He uncovered an old-style bulky computer covered with a cloth in his room, dusted it off, and turned on the monitor. Screens displaying surveillance footage from the entire neighborhood appeared instantly.

Since returning from the time travel, he had been busy clandestinely hacking all nearby surveillance cameras.

He had also readjusted their angles so that there were no blind spots in the surrounding buildings. Every move could be clearly seen.

Most importantly, there were two of them now. Su Yi brought a small chair for Lolise to sit by the window, then drew the curtain, leaving only a narrow slit for observation. From this vantage point, they could easily watch the old man’s courtyard.

His every move was flawless.

“Watch the downstairs carefully. Tell me as soon as he appears,” Su Yi ordered.

“Mission guaranteed,” Lolise saluted immediately.

Su Yi sat at the computer, Lolise by the window. Their faces were stern, eyes unblinking, staring intently at the activity below as if fearing dry eyes.

“Report, sir! The target has taken a square-shaped object. Not sure what he intends to do,” Lolise soon spotted something.

“A square?”

The image on the screen showed a figure holding what looked like a chessboard.

“What does that guy want with a chessboard?”

But then Su Yi realized something was wrong.

Almost fooled. Such a cautious watcher actually tried to distract him with a leisurely item like that.

Tricky indeed, but Su Yi was not easily deceived. This time, the opponent had chosen the wrong person!

No matter what happened, Su Yi would never let his guard down.

The security room’s footage was the clearest.

They could even tell whether the old man was moving a rook or a knight.

“Lolise!”

“Present!”

“Keep probing and report again.”

“Yes, sir!”

“Hm, very alert,” Su Yi said, eyes wide open, letting the computer’s bright light shine on him as he watched the old man sit down in the security room and begin a game of chess with Old Zhang.

And he remained there all night long...
