Chapter 24: The Attempt to Kill Tang San is Thwarted
Eight small rocky cubes formed a massive golden cube, completely enclosing the Titan Giant Ape. Then, the golden cube rapidly shrank, and in the blink of an eye, it became a tiny cube the size of a leather ball.
Before the Titan Giant Ape could react, its self-destruction was interrupted. Its body, now shrunken, was trapped in the small space, unable to move an inch.
Qian Wenyu curved her lips slightly and reached forward with her left hand, pulling the Heavenly Star Chain that had locked the Titan Giant Ape back into her possession.
“What my princess desires, how could I let you escape? Go keep your good brother company.”
As her words fell, Qian Wenyu tossed the Heavenly Star Chain into the system space.
Xiao Wu, hiding behind Tang San, witnessed the entire capture of the Titan Giant Ape and was now streaming tears down her face. Yet, no matter how worried she was for the Titan Giant Ape, she dared not show herself at such a moment.
Tang San noticed Xiao Wu’s unusual behavior but didn’t dwell on it, simply assuming she was too frightened.
Qian Wenyu hovered in the sky, a satisfied smile gracing her face. Having captured the fleeing Titan Giant Ape, her mood soared.
Her gaze swept over the Shrek Academy members on the ground, finally resting on Tang San. She pondered the likelihood of killing him at this moment.
If she made a move against Tang San, Tang Hao would surely appear from the shadows to protect him. But with the Nine Nether Azure Phoenix present, and Tang Hao still recovering from his wounds, he would be unable to stir much trouble. Without Tang Hao, the Shrek Academy group would be at her mercy.
Calculating thus, her chances of killing Tang San were nearly one hundred percent, and she could take care of Tang Hao simultaneously—a perfect two-birds-with-one-stone scenario.
As these thoughts crossed her mind, a wicked smile flickered across her face, and a brand-new Heavenly Star Chain appeared in her hand.
Seeing Qian Wenyu look toward them and then produce the terrifying artifact capable of instantly sealing even a hundred-thousand-year-old soul beast sent chills down Tang San and the others’ spines, their hearts trembling.
The hundred-thousand-year-old Titan Giant Ape was already subdued by her, so why did she now brandish that dreadful little cube? Was she planning to capture all of them at once?
That terrifying thought took root in their minds, instantly filling them with dread.
Qian Wenyu shook her head, retracting the Heavenly Star Chain. Killing a chicken with a sledgehammer was unnecessary; opponents of this caliber weren’t worthy of her invoking divine power to activate the chain.
The next moment, Qian Wenyu’s expression turned deadly serious, her eyes sharp and fierce. With lightning speed, she thrust her rock spear toward Tang San on the ground.
Tang San hadn’t expected Qian Wenyu to strike him suddenly. Faced with her fierce assault, he quickly realized he couldn’t withstand her attack and immediately used Ghost Shadow Mirage to evade.
But Qian Wenyu wouldn’t grant him that chance. Seeing Tang San’s movement, she swiftly raised her other hand and slammed down a Heavenly Motion Phenomenon.
While Tang San’s Ghost Shadow Mirage was fast enough to avoid the strike, the energy wave unleashed when the Heavenly Star exploded was vast. Tang San, caught in the energy ripple, was petrified on the spot. Those rushing to his aid—Zhao Wuji and the others—were also turned to stone.
Qian Wenyu’s rock spear stabbed at Tang San, now petrified, who sensed mortal danger. He knew that even if he could move, he wouldn’t be able to dodge the spear’s deadly power.
Zhao Wuji and the others, petrified beside him, held their breath in horror at the scene. Just as they thought Tang San was doomed and Tang Hao, hidden in the shadows, was about to act, the spear’s tip suddenly halted just an inch from Tang San.
This sudden turn left Tang San and Zhao Wuji stunned, thinking Qian Wenyu had a sudden change of heart.
In the shadows, Tang Hao suppressed his urge to reveal himself. With that mysterious hundred-thousand-year-old soul beast present, it was best he remain hidden.
Everyone assumed Qian Wenyu had stopped out of conscience or was merely trying to scare Tang San. But internally, her fury nearly exploded. Her already murderous face twisted into a hideous snarl.
Damn it!
An invisible force was preventing her from killing Tang San. Just one more inch forward, and her rock spear would pierce Tang San’s heart, a strike no immortal could save him from.
But that mere inch was like an insurmountable chasm. An invisible power barred her way, making it impossible to drive the spear deeper.
“How dare you stop me!” Qian Wenyu looked up at the sky, her eyes filled with icy menace. Though she didn’t know who was obstructing her, such power could only belong to the divine realm’s few.
She withdrew her rock spear and raised her jade hand, summoning the Heavenly Star Chain once again, determined to kill Tang San and confront whoever was interfering.
Yet, the next moment, she abruptly retracted the chain, her imposing aura vanishing in an instant.
She tilted her head, staring defiantly at the sky with a cold sneer: “Hmph, today we’ll call it quits. But our rivalry… is far from over!”
With that, Qian Wenyu flew onto the back of the Nine Nether Azure Phoenix.
Watching Qian Wenyu and the Azure Phoenix disappear into the distance, Tang San and the others slowly recovered from their shock, collapsing onto the ground.
Oscar sighed in relief, “Phew, that devil is finally gone. She scared me to death just now!”
Dai Mubai glared angrily at Ning Rongrong. “Why don’t you tell us who she is? Hurry up and tell us. How dare she bully us like that! When we return, I’ll make sure the dean demands an explanation.”
Ma Hongjun nodded in agreement, fuming, “Exactly. We absolutely can’t let her off so easily!”
Ning Rongrong cast them a disdainful glance. “With you two? You dare talk nonsense about giving her trouble? Even our Seven Treasures Glazed Tile School wouldn’t dare say that outright.”
“If you want to know, I’ll tell you. She’s from the Spirit Hall. Among the three holy maidens of the Spirit Hall, she is the most terrifying Heavenly Star Saint Maiden. I advise you to behave, for the horror of the Heavenly Star Saint Maiden is beyond your imagination!”
Tang San nodded in full agreement with Ning Rongrong’s words. In that instant earlier, he had personally experienced the threat posed by the Heavenly Star Saint Maiden. He had clearly felt the threat of death emanating from her. Had she not stopped at the last moment, his life would have been forfeit.
Yet one thing puzzled Tang San deeply. He had never met the Heavenly Star Saint Maiden before, nor had he offended her. Why, then, did she immediately harbor murderous intent toward him?
Zhao Wuji spoke up: “Enough worrying for now. Tang San’s third soul ring hasn’t been acquired yet. The previous battle affected many soul beasts. Fortunately, there are some human-faced demon spiders of suitable age. Tang San, go choose one to absorb for your soul ring.”
Tang San was not satisfied with the millennia-old human-faced demon spiders. Thinking of Qian Wenyu’s formidable power, he was filled with a sense of crisis and eager to increase his strength quickly. Ultimately, despite others’ objections, he chose a ten-thousand-year-old human-faced demon spider.
Elsewhere, the Nine Nether Azure Phoenix flew steadily beyond the Star Dou Great Forest. Qian Wenyu sat silently on its back.
After a long while, the Azure Phoenix sighed softly and said, “Just now… someone must have stopped you from killing that human.”
